The Float is an OEM part for Bosch dishwashers. This float senses water levels inside the dishwasher, signaling the inlet valve to refill when needed.

Causes of a float malfunctioning can be mineral deposits accumulating and weighing it down over time, or cracks in the plastic housing allowing water in.

Symptoms of a bad float include:

  • The dishwasher not filling or filling slowly
  • Error codes related to fill issues
  • Improper water levels impacting wash results

This genuine OEM Bosch part is also compatible with Thermador, Gaggenau and select Kenmore models.

Dishwasher won't fill and drain pump continuously runs. Pump runs when door is opened. The pump will discharge if I manually add water. Replaced inlet valve and pump still runs. When I push the red float stick down, it goes down a fraction of an inch and pump will shut off. As soon as I let go, the red stick rises and pump turns back on. There is not a very much water in pump tray. Could the check valve be failing and allowing water to drain back down keeping the float up?

1 Answer

TooManyOldAppliances, the float rising can occur with little water in the pan. It is recommended that the water is cleared out completely and the unit is observed for any leaks while in operation.

Hello Nich, This is most commonly caused by a water valve 00607335 that doesn't open fully. This puts a dribble of water in the base which floats the flood switch float. The cure is normally to replace the water valve and during this repair, remove all water from the base.

Hello Bob, You should first make sure the drain line is supported at countertop height before going into the sink drain. If not, siphoning will occur causing the complaint you are experiencing. The water valve 00425458 should be replaced if the drain is configured correctly.

My dishwasher drain pump continued to run after the cycle was finished and CL appeared in the display. I found internet advice to jiggle the red rod on the float up and down. It didn't seem stuck, but moved up and down easily. There was no water in the bottom tray. After the jiggle, the machine has been working perfectly with no pump run-on through at least six cycles. Could this just have been a one-time event or is there possibly some other problem that will recur in the future? Thanks for your advice !! Doug

1 Answer

Doug, It sounds like it may have just been a stuck float and you may not have to worry about it again but it is possible that it could reoccur. If it does reoccur would recommend replacing the float.

Hello Jeff. Check and make sure the float is not stuck up in the unit. If the float is good and working properly, and there is no power coming to the water valve, you will need to replace the control module in the unit.

Woke up to hear the dishwasher making a draining noise, it had been running all night. It would still make this noise with the door open. After a few days, I tried it again, and the dishwasher ran fine and was able to do a load. But upon trying another load, again it was just making a draining noise. We pulled the dishwasher out, and opened it up. There was some water in the tray below. What we have found is on the tray below there is a styrofoam disk that has three holes in it. Possibly the float I keep reading about. In the center hole is a gray plastic piece that a long red rod sits on that I am thinking is the float shaft. This red rod does not move up automatically to start the washing process. Water starts moving through a plastic tank. There is a hole at the front right corner of the tank and water is coming out through the hole and draining into the pan below. If we manually move the red rod in the up position and hold it, for just a few seconds, the water does not drain out of the hole and the dishwasher begins to run properly and runs through the entire cleaning process fine on it's own. What is going on, or what is needed to make this red rod engage the control on it's own?

1 Answer

Hi Dumpsterdiva. The red float shaft part # 00263122. The Float lever switch is part # 00263123. The float disc is part # 00165301. All cheap replaceable parts which activate the drain pump. Clean up all the water and use dishwasher magic part # TJ104, monthly to keep the unit efficient. Thank You.

Hello KJ. You will need to check and see if there is water in the bottom tray under the dishwasher. If so, there is a leak under there, that is causing the pump to kick on to prevent flooding of the house. You will need to dry the bottom out and run the dishwasher and look for leaks. Once you find where the dishwasher is leaking from, we will be glad to look the part up for you. Hope this helps. Answered by AppliancePartsPros.com How do I get to the bottom tray? I have slid it out and taken off the toe kick plate. I also cleaned out the drain, took out the piece that covers the sump pump, took needle nose pliers to take out the blace rubber thing and cleaned that too. The blue paddle turns freely. The drain still runs, even with the door open. I believe it is the float that is engaged, but do not know how to proceed with caution. Thank you!

Hello Joann. If you remove the side access panel on the left side facing the dishwasher, you can access and replace the float assembly 00165301. The base assembly of the dishwasher is the bottom part on the dishwasher that sits on the floor. If there is water in there, then you have a leak. Hope this helps.
