The Float Switch is an OEM replacement part specific to Bosch dishwashers. It is a switch located in the sump area of the dishwasher tub that detects water levels and provides feedback for automatic filling and draining functions.

Symptoms of a bad float switch include:

  • The dishwasher fails to fully drain water after cycles
  • Cycles not initiating or advancing properly due to water level issues
  • Float switch area where the sensor attaches developing leaks
  • Loose or detached float switch from normal wear over time

Causes of a bad float switch are usually mineral or sediment buildup disrupting its buoyancy and sensing ability. Without a properly functioning float switch, the dishwasher cannot effectively monitor water levels to manage filling and drainage.

This OEM Bosch replacement switch is also compatible with Thermador, Gaggenau, and some Kenmore dishwasher models.

Hello Ed, The water valve can be seized and not physically opening. The water valve is the most common cause of this complaint. The water level control assembly 00440670 is located on the left side of the appliance as you face it.

Vannessa, With the Error 01 being a heater issue you would want to replace the heater. It is possible that the heater could be clogged causing an issue with getting water to the upper spray arm. Also check the pump and the screens to make sure that they are not clogged causing an issue where the unit is not drawing enough water. Also check to make sure that there is enough water getting into the unit.

Hello Larry, The float switch can cause this but you should verify water pressure to the unit and voltage to the valve since it cannot allow water to enter if the valve is not energized. If not voltage is present during the fill part of the cycle, you will need to verify the door switches are closing and voltage is being passed through them. If no voltage is getting there, you could have a bad control module 00676960.

I have an intermittent problem in that sometimes the timer knob will not advance beyond the 6 o'clock position and once it didn't advance beyond a little past the 9 o'clock position. In both cases the pump keeps running, circulating water. If I move the knob 1 click it completes the cycle. I'm hoping it's not the timer 'cause they're no longer available. Like I said, this is an intermittent problem and it's only happened 2 or 3 times.

Bruce, With the unit sticking at certain points then it would most likely be the timer in which the contacts are sticking.

Hello Gerry, You should check the flood switch assembly 00440670 in the base. If there is any water in the base assembly or the switch is stuck in the up position, the only thing that will work on the unit is the drain pump.

Mike, Yes, the power outage could have caused an issue. The most likely issue that would have been caused would be a issue with the heater circuit. With the unit washing for 4 hours it sounds as though the water temperature is not hot enough.

Sink drain clogged up. While attempting to unclog, caused water to back up in dishwasher. (Perhaps it was running and door got shut in process and it started again.) It flooded. Got water out. After sink was unclogged, DW drain motor operates with door open. I read an answer you gave on forum: "The Bosch dishwasher has a moisture sensor, (flood sensor), in the bottom assembly that will shut off the units' ability to do anything but drain out. The drain pump will run as long as the moisture is sensed and nothing else will work on the unit until the moisture under there is dried up." I know that the water valve could be broken, but I would like to try and dry out any water still in base. Can you advise where the moisture sensor is? Is that the same as a "float switch"? I found this same situation described in the PDF troubleshooter mentioned in your forum on page d3 in this post: http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/dishwasher-repair/7123-bosch-dishwasher-troubleshoot-manual.html#post19321 (although this PDF is prior to my model). Could you give me the least invasive first steps for potentially removing water that could have resulted when I plunged the sink? I did see some of the enzymes I had tried to break up the drain clog in the DW, so I'm assuming I backed the water up into it. Thank you

Larry, You will want to check to see if the water valve is getting power to it. If not then check the float switch to make sure that the switch is not bad. If the switch checks ok then you will want to check the wiring from the valve back to the control board and if ok then replace the control module.
