The Ignition Device is an OEM part for Bosch gas cooktops. This ignitor is responsible for sparking the burners to safely ignite the gas flow and initiate the cooking process.

The ignition device works through a high-voltage electrical arc that produces a spark near each gas burner valve whenever a cooktop burner is turned on. This spark reliably ignites the gas, allowing full and consistent burner flame.

Causes of a bad ignition device can include defects in the electronic components, wear and tear of the electrode tips over time, or issues preventing a strong enough spark from occurring.

Symptoms of a bad ignition device include:

  • Burners that will not light or remain lit
  • Repeated lighting attempts required before a flame is produced
  • Inconsistent or intermittent ignition between burners
  • Burners that light but then extinguish unexpectedly

This OEM Bosch part is also compatible with Thermador, Gaggenau, and some Kenmore models.

Jim, the jets can be heated up by placing the caps on, igniting the burner with a match, and letting it heat for a couple of minutes. From there, with the flame off, the cap would need to be removed using tongs and placed on a grate. A cold, damp washcloth can be used on the venturi to cause the venturi to retract while the holder remains warm, this will allow the venturi to be removed. If the venturi will not come out using this procedure, the venturi and jet holder may need to be replaced as the venturi may need to be cut out.

Roy, If the unit is on LP gas then check to make sure that the gas tank is not running low on fuel. For either Lp or Natural gas make sure that the burners are clean, make sure that the orifices are clean. Other than an unclean burn this would be the most likely causes for orange flames.

Hello Lori, You should first make sure the gas burner head is clean by scrubbing it with an old toothbrush and hot white vinegar. Then use a safety pin or small paper clip in the orifice hole to ensure it is clear. If these are good, make sure the spark is white or blue since, if the spark is yellow, orange, or red, it has a hard time lighting the gas. If it is yellow, orange, or red you will need to disassemble the main top to clean the connection points of the metal panels making up the main top. This may need to be done with sandpaper to re-establish ground to the surface burner for a strong spark.

Hello Lori, you did not mention which burner was having the problem, so we will go with a general checks, first remove the burner cap and check the ports on the burner base and make sure all are clean, then check down thru the center port and check the orifice is not blocked with any debris, check underside of cap for any irregularities, reinstall the cap correctly ,check the spark ignitor has a clean /strong spark, if still having a problem lighting then replace the burner base and cap.

Gene, Most likely it is the igniter. If these igniters fracture it will arch away from the burner instead of into the burner base resulting in a long wait before it will light.

Hello Sharon. You will need to clean all the burner and make sure they are not wet. If not, then the spark switch is bad and will need to be replaced on the unit. Thanks.
