The Potentiometer is an OEM replacement part for Bosch gas range or cooktops. It functions as a three-terminal resistor that adjusts the flow of electric current, which in turn, controls the ignition and temperature of the cooktop. This component is essential for the precise operation and control of the gas burners, ensuring they light up and maintain the desired flame intensity.

Causes of a malfunctioning Potentiometer can be attributed to wear and tear, electrical issues, or damage due to spills and cleaning products. A compromised potentiometer affects the flow of electric current, leading to issues with the ignition and temperature control of the gas burners.

Symptoms of a bad Potentiometer include:

  • The cooktop not lighting or staying lit
  • The ignitor continuously clicking without igniting the burner
  • Inability to adjust the flame intensity or temperature accurately

This OEM Bosch part is also compatible with Thermador, Gaggenau, and some Kenmore models.

Bill, you will need to check the production date on the production/serial plate. There are two versions of your machine. If the production date is prior to 9706 00422748 / 422748 would be the potentiometer to order. If the production date is after 9706 00422749 / 422749 would be the potentiometer to order.

Jean C for Model Number PDR366ZS

I have a burner that will not light anymore on my Thermador stove. It needs part 497324 to replace the parts. However this is not being manufactured anymore. I found a part from a guy that is a kit with the number 422748 on the package but the part number of 497324 on the outside box. It has the 3 parts that compose the kit. The two potentiometers and the simmer control. My concern is since there are different numbers on the package as compared to the outside box, how do I know that they work together as a kit and that there hasn't been some mixing around. Is there anything or numbers that you can rely on that ties these parts together?

1 Answer

Mike, Yes, the 00422748 / 00422748 Potentiometer, would be the correct parts to order, for the left side simmer valves, for the model number you supplied. The parts are in stock and available at this time. Thanks,

Hal for Model Number PRSE484GG

Lighting of the two left burners on the 17 year old range became unreliable. Sometimes the burners would light and other times they would not. Our local Thermador repair specialist replaced both potentiometers with part #422748. Now the range works normally. My wife and I are concerned, however, by an answer to a question by another customer of this site. The question was by Steve S. and it concerned model RDDS30VQW. The question was would changing the potentiometers to #422748 without changing the simmer control (#422882) cause any problems. The response was that potentiometers and simmer controllers had to be changed as a kit. Changing the potentiometers without changing the simmer controller would result in destruction of the simmer controller and posed a fire risk. Our question is do we also risk destroying electronic components of the range/oven by changing the potentiometers only. Is there a fire risk in doing so?

1 Answer

Hello Hal. No, that is only if the kit is needed. In your case, they could just get the potentiometers. Thanks.

Jenny for Model Number PRSE484GG

Will potentiometer (422748) work with the original simmer control from PRSE484GG? Tom from aloha appliance repair come to fix my range. When he replaced the potentiometer (4227748) all 4 burners seems to function correctly. He tried to replace the old Simmer control to a newer version (422882) but it did not work (need to be repaired). So now my stove has a newer potentiometer (422748) with the old version simmer control from PRSE484GG. The stove seem to function normal. Do I need to worry about long-term compatibility issue?

1 Answer

Hello Jenny. No, it should work fine in the unit. If there was an issue, it would not have worked with the old controller. Thanks.

Hello John, 00422748 will work for the model provided as long as the simmer control has been changed since this part is not compatible with the original simmer control. I'm sorry but the new simmer control 00497234 has been discontinued by the manufacturer and no satisfactory substitutions have been provided. Thank you for your patience and understanding in this matter.

Suni, You would not need to replace the kit for your unit and would only need the potentiometers.
