The Drain Pump is an OEM part for Bosch dishwashers. It is designed to remove water from the dishwasher's tub after the wash and rinse cycles, ensuring that the dishwasher drains properly. This pump expels the used water through the drain hose and into the household drainage system, maintaining the efficiency and hygiene of the appliance.

You should replace the drain pump if it becomes faulty. Causes of a bad drain pump can include wear and tear from regular use, blockages from debris or food particles, or electrical failures. A malfunctioning pump can lead to water not draining properly, which can affect the dishwasher's performance and cause water to pool inside.

Symptoms of a bad drain pump include:

  • Water not draining from the dishwasher
  • Unusual noises such as humming or grinding during the drain cycle
  • Error codes related to drainage issues
  • Water pooling at the bottom of the dishwasher

This OEM Bosch part is also compatible with Thermador, Gaggenau, and some Kenmore models.

Questions & Answers

For Bosch Drain Pump (Part Number: OEM17916450)

1 Answer

Chris, it would be recommended that the drain high loop at the sink connection is checked to make sure it is set within the manufacturer's recommendations. If this checks good, and the drain pump is seated properly, it is likely that the power module 12024684 has failed.

Hello Tom, thank you for contacting APP, Some units may leave a small amount of water in the Sump Assembly and appear to have not completely drained out, this is normal as long as the amount left after the cycle only seems to be down in the Sump itself. If the unit is leaving an excessive amount of water in the tub there may be an issue with the Drain Pump 00631200, the Sump’s Check Valve 00611320, the Pump Filter 00645038, or the installation of the Drain Hose 00744881. If you are hearing the Drain Pump sometimes hum and not pull water out of the unit replace the Drain Pump. To test if the check valve has failed, and is allowing water back into the unit after being drained, remove the end of the Drain Hose from where it connects to home’s drainage system, lift it above the level of the unit, and fill the drain hose with water, if you begin seeing water flowing back into the tub the check valve has failed and will need to be replaced. Also, check that the Pump Filter in the top of the sump has not become blocked and verify that the Drain Hose is installed as per the manufacturer’s specifications.

Follow up to: DaveT for Model Number Bosch SHX68T55UC/07: After studying additional schematics and watching videos, it appears to me that the videos closest to my model are not the one attached to the Drain Pump part on this web page, but two others. How To: Bosch/Thermador/Gaggenau Drain Pump 00620774 is the wrong pump # but very close to my dishwasher design and shows how to reach the pump from the front by disassembly of the door. But the door is different. How to Replace Outer Door Panel 00689996 / AP5691255 #00689996 shows how to disassemble my door, reach and remove the access panel and the frame support, and reach the Drain Pump from the front without turning the dishwasher upside down. Am I missing something?

Dave, due to the very limited space available between the base pan and the tub, it is often much easier to remove the base for a drain pump replacement and has less part removal. However, if you are comfortably able to remove the drain pump without removing the base pan, it is an option.

Dave, the dishwasher would need the base mounting screws removed, as well as the water and power supplies turned off. This will allow the dishwasher to be flipped so that the base is facing up, making the removal easy. Removing the base plate will allow the drain pump to be accessed and removed.

Steve, At the beginning of the cycle the drain pump would come on and this will be the most likely cause for the noise. Check the pump for debris in it and if it is clear it could have a bearing that is going bad.

This is a low db dishwasher and it has developed a rather loud issue when draining which is really noticeable given the quietness of this dishwasher and a noise we haven't heard before. The unit is draining, with no standing water, I checked the impeller and it was clean and turning freely, dishes are being cleaned properly and there haven't been any error codes. So, I have a dishwasher operating perfectly except for making a loud sound when draining (sound from the dishwasher, not the water draining). Any thoughts on what this could be and the fix, if needed? Thanks

1 Answer

Eddie, Based on the information provided it sounds like you may have a drain pump that has developed a bearing noise when it is running, if so then the repair would be to replace the drain pump assembly. 00631200

I was getting the E24 error code for months. Bought a replacement drain pump from you guys and easily switched it out using your video. I didn't realize how loud my drain pump had become until the dishwasher ran with the new one! Seems to definitely have been the problem. Problem is, once I ran a cycle with the new pump, I now get the E11 error code at the end of each run. After some research, it seems this indicates an error in the temperature sensor or thermistor malfunction. Any insight into how I can have somehow caused this when replacing the pump? Seems too much of a coincidence that this error code is now popping up.

1 Answer

Kristin, You will want to double-check the wiring on the thermistors and thermostats to make sure that there is nothing that had gotten knocked loose. This would be the most likely cause but you could just happen to have a bad thermistor as well.

Kirk, based on the information provided, it seems that either the drain pump impeller has separated from the driveshaft or the drain pump motor is inefficient. In either scenario, the drain pump 00631200 would need to be replaced.
