The Sump Assembly is an OEM part for Bosch dishwashers. It collects and channels water to the pump, ensuring proper circulation and drainage during the wash cycle.

Over time, the sump assembly can become clogged with debris, suffer damage, or wear out, leading to compromised performance. Causes of a bad sump assembly include buildup of food particles and mineral deposits, physical damage from sharp objects, or wear from continuous use.

Symptoms of a bad sump assembly include:

  • Water not draining properly from the dishwasher
  • Persistent leaks or pooling of water at the bottom
  • Unusual noises during the wash cycle
  • Dishes not being cleaned effectively due to poor water circulation

This OEM Bosch part is also compatible with Thermador, Gaggenau, and some Kenmore models.

got an E15 code while running a 9 minute rinse cycle. Dried out the base and reinstalled float, re ran the rinse and at 7 minutes left got E15. By repeating this process determined that water in dishwasher basin was getting high enough to leak out the front door and this spilled in to the white drain channel and through the grey center drain tube into the base, causing the E15. Replaced the upper door seal, same problem. I tilted the dishwasher back some with shims hoping the water would not get high enough to drain over the bottom door seal and ran the customer service program outlined in the wiring diagram. It stopped at step 8 indicating a drain filling fault but no error code. So is this my lower door seal or the water inlet valve or the3 sump or the check valve or ??????? Thanks

bssquared, Water in the base is the result of a water inlet valve not opening enough and water leaking out the water inlet housing. If you pull out the unit enough to see the water inlet housing you can actually see it leaking into the tray.

My dishwasher will start normally and then a couple of minutes into the cycle it starts beeping and the "Watertap" message displays. It appears to continue through the cycle for another 3 mins or so at which time water pours out of the overflow tube into the base of the dishwasher and activates the flood control system. Simultaneously to the flood control system activating the display shows the dreaded "E15" error message, the "Aquastop" message displays and the "Watertap" message starts flashing. I have replaced the inlet fill valve and the inlet housing and still have the same outcome when the dishwasher runs. I am not sure where to go from here. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Onegod4me, Check the water pressure to the unit to ensure that you do not have too high of water pressure or too low maybe from a kinked water line. This would be the most common reason for this type of issue to occur.

Joe, The flap trap would need to be switched from the old on to the new one. The new part does not come with one.

Hi guys I replaced the sump on my Bosch dishwasher and your advice was very helpful thank you. When I emptied the unit last night, items on the bottom rack were not clean so I immediately checked the lower spray arm. It had a few pieces of plastic and other gunk stuck inside and I eventually cleaned it out. I inspected the sump tube where the arm fits in to and all was clear. The arm itself also looks in good condition. When I fitted the arm back into the sump tube and clipped it into position, I spun the arm but it doesn't spin freely. It will spin but not like most spray arms. I thought maybe this model has a slowed movement caused by the design of the plastic components. If I push down on the arm it has a plastic grinding feel and if I left its weight without unlocking the arm, it'll still feel like a rough spin. I thought maybe the water pressure lifts the arm to the correct height for a smooth spin. After watching your video again I see that the arm should spin freely. I just hope the new sump that I recently installed was manufactured correctly. I can buy a new spray arm but first thought I'd check with you guys as you have been so helpful in the past. Thanks

Ian, based on the information provided it is likely that there is debris in the wash arm. If the wash arm does not have any burs and the sump does not have any burs, then debris would be the only thing that could cause grinding. If there was anything left in the wash arm when it was installed, this could fall down into the sump. Usually, the best way to ensure that there is not anything in the wash arm 00744883 would be to replace it.

Hi again team After looking carefully at the plastic cogs I noticed on one of them there's a large tooth and on the reciprocal cog there's a space or gap so they can fit together. If I align both cogs as mentioned, they can continually turn without stopping at all. Alternatively I can also place the cogs together so that the large tooth on one cog and gap on the other are not aligned. This way the cogs can only turn approx 180 degree and then are stopped by the large tooth. I just didn't want to assemble the dishwasher and find out it was wrong. If my first idea is correct, what is the reason for having the large tooth etc. The cogs would continue to turn without the large tooth in any case. I have 2 pics but unable to attach on this question form. Thanks Ian

Ian, To be able to assist with your question we will need to have the model number of your dishwasher.

Hi guys Just viewing your great video on how to replace sump assembly on dishwasher SHEM78W55N/01 https://www.appliancepartspros.com/bosch-sump-668102-ap4483459.html I'm in the middle of replacing mine due to a slight leak and accidently remove the water switch motor from the water diverter and moved the small plastic cog within. I'm should it must have a set position enabling it to operate the water diversion correctly. As the cog sits on a spline, it can be placed back many ways so I need to know how it sits or maybe the motor resets itself?. I should have unscrewed the water diverter only as per your video. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thx Ian

Ian, It should reset itself when you turn the unit. on. There will be a positional based switch that will activate to tell it is in the correct position.
