Symptoms of a failing user control board include:

  • Fluctuating or unresponsive temperature settings
  • Inoperative display, lights or control buttons

Causes can include normal wear from extended use. Exposure to temperature fluctuations inside the freezer can also deteriorate electronic connections over time.

Questions & Answers

For Frigidaire User Control Board (Part Number: OEM15956754)

Sandy, the most likely problem would be a faulty 297370600/297370600 User Control Board. But first, check the wiring connections at the bottom of the freezer door and hinge and where the connections enter the front frame. Make sure the freezer is level in both directions, and the door closes and seals properly, then replace the control. Thanks,

I replaced the control board - the old one appeared to have gone dead permanently flashing "OFF". After replacing the control board and the freezer was connected back to power, the freezer appeared to be cooling down properly but the control board was showing "hi temp" in red and temperature reading between 88 and 92 deg F for some time. It then started flashing E8 followed by -10 deg F continuously with "hi temp" red light still on. I changed the thermistor but this behavior persists. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Wale, You will want to check to make sure that the wiring that you can see is not damaged. This would be the most likely cause with the sensor and the control board having been replaced.

James, With the control panel not working properly then this will most likely be a faulty control board. Test to make sure that there is 120 VAC to the start device but if there is not power then the board is definitely at fault.

Hello J, likely there is a heavy frost accumulation on the evap coils, you would want to manually defrost the freezer at this point. The frost has likely stopped the fan from turning which can cause the compressor to run non stop and overheat and has cut out on its overload and the higher internal temperature is keeping the high temp alert on.

Phillip, The control is reading what the thermistor is telling it. If the thermistor has been replaced then your control would need to be replaced.297235200

Hello Laura, check that the freezer door light switch is being activated by the door when closed, this can also be caused by a faulty door switch, lastly, check the door's wiring where it exits the door and connects to the main cabinet, please include the model number if you need any parts or have further questions.

Otis, make sure the door switches are being activated when the doors are being closed. sometimes the plastic pieces that are attached to the door don't quite meet up with the door switch.

Tm for Model Number 25328712805

Kenmore upright Elite not freezing. Visual inspection confirms fan is working. Visual inspection confirms evap coils are clean and frost free. Replaced compressor relay with 3n1 hard start relay. This did not fix problem.Compressor will click on then click off after a few seconds. Ran freezer overnight with test ice tray filled with water. Did not freeze. Compressor hot to touch. Appears freezer temps are in the 70's but cant tell for sure due to the following: User control panel does not illuminate completely. Very faint and numbers are unreadable due to them being broken up(lines in numbers missing). Can't tell if up/down buttons are working because of display issues. Red hi temp indicator is illuminated completely. What is most likely the problem?

1 Answer

Hello TM, the problem is the compressor has failed. You may want to have a service technician give you an estimate on a compressor replacement at this point. The compressor part is 5304475098.
