Symptoms of a failing user control board include:

  • Fluctuating or unresponsive temperature settings
  • Inoperative display, lights or control buttons
  • Error codes and diagnostic problems appearing

Causes can include normal wear from extended use. Exposure to temperature fluctuations inside the freezer can also deteriorate electronic connections over time.

Hello Sam, if the freezer is getting correct voltage from the outlet, 120v, check the wiring from the door to the cabinet for any pinched/damaged/broken wires, if all ok then replace the control board 297370600.

I have a upright Frigidaire freezer. We lost power to our house. When the power came back on the freezer did not work, the control board is towards the top of the door to the side. After a few times of unplugging and plugging it back the displays show a couple lines, but does not display a number or error code. I checked the start relay for continuity and that seems to have it. Could this user control board be the problem? is there something else I should check? Sincerely, Jim G

Jim, That control board supplies power to the fans and compressors. Even without a model number to check a wiring diagram that is most likely your problem.

Aimee, For this issue, the most likely cause of failure would be a faulty control board.

Jerry, you may want to inspect the door switch 216822900 to ensure that the door is fully engaging it. If the door switch is fully engaging it, then you may want to test the door switch for continuity. When the door switch is not being pressed in, there should not be any continuity, and when it is pressed it should read continuity. Based on the descriptions, the most likely issue would be any improperly operating contact point in the door switch. However, if the door switch tests good after pressing the switch in and out multiple times and testing for continuity, then it would be likely that the main control 297235200 is not operating properly.

Amy for Model Number FFU14F5HW

My Frigidaire upright freezer with electronic temp control has been weird periodically. It will run fun for weeks to months then suddenly act up. The display will say 6 as the setting on the outside but then nothing is happening on the inside: no cold air, no light, not running. But if I unplug it for a few min it comes on right away after and runs fine for weeks to months. This time I didn’t catch it right away and there was a little defrosting going on. But once again unplugged and replugged and if worked. Months ago when it did this the display was showing something but it was not a number or a letter. Almost looked like a backwards “h”. Any thoughts? Control board?

Amy, based on what has been described, the most likely issue would be with the control board as a hard reset will temporarily correct the issue for a good length of time. If it was a mechanical failure the reset would not have been effective.

Over the weekend my Frigidaire Upright Freezer stopped working.I noticed that the display on the control panel was displaying my selected setting but the items inside had started to thaw. The High Temp alarm was not activated and when I open the door the Door Ajar light dose not illuminate. The compressor or fan would not run even if I increased the temperature setting or unplugged and plugged the unit back in.The the numbers on the display has a "dot" diplayed next to it. (4.) I never noticed the dot before. Come to find out we experienced a power outage the day prior when away at work. Could the surge of the power coming back on damage the control board?

1 Answer

John, the freezer will require 110-120VAC to operate, the hertz rating can be found on the model number tag as it is not indicated in the technical information.
