Mike July 09, 2017 for Model Number GFDS350EL!WW Both the power button and start button are broken. What parts do I need to replace?
1 Answer Hello Mike! You'll want to make sure the user interface part number WE4M513 behind the control panel part number WE19M1656 is not damaged. If the user interface is intact, you'll need to replace the control panel. Thanks! Read More...
Reed D. March 09, 2016 for Model Number GFDN240ELOWW How do I replace a broken clothes dryer power button? GE model GFDN240ELOWW.
1 Answer Reed, You'll need to remove the top panel and the control panel to access and check the buttons and user interface. To remove the top panel: Remove the Phillips-head screw that attaches the control panel rear trim. Pull the trim backward and remove. Remove the 2 Phillips-head screws that attach the top panel to the cabinet.Raise the front of the top panel approximately 3 inches, then pull forward to clear the rear tabs. To remove the control panel: Remove the cycle selector knob by pulling outward. Remove the Phillips-head screw underneath the cycle selector knob. Lift the control panel off vertically. Disconnect the wire harness. Remove the 5 1/4 in. hex head screws and dismount the user interface control board. You now have access to the buttons, shafts, springs, and switches. Read More...
Sandee July 14, 2015 for Model Number GFDS350GLOWW SERIAL # TT856523C My power button broke off on my dryer. I took off the panel and it seems to be the same oval plastic piece that everyone else has described. What part number to I order for my specific unit? BTW....This website is AWESOME! GE sucks because this has obviously happened to so many people, yet they still do not offer a simple, less expensive solution to their poorly manufactured product. Last one I buy with their name on it!
Don November 07, 2013 for Model Number GFDS350EL1WW Hello, I have what appears to be the same issue or repair as Kevin who asked a question before me- I have the GE model # GFDS350EL1WW electric dryer (which is less than 2 years old but out of warranty), and the power button seems to be pushed in too far and thus broken, making it impossible at this point to turn the dryer on. When this problem first arose the other day, I could still turn the unit on (just barely), but with subsequent pushes the button has become worse and worse and now has been rendered completely useless. I called GE when it happened and scheduled a service appt ($90 just to come out, ouch), and the technician came this morning. He popped off the control panel and was doing his thing, then after about 10 min or so , he said that I'd need a new control panel (part # WE19M1656) because the part that broke for the power button is a part of the actual molding of the control panel, therefore that whole piece would need to be replaced. He never left me with a written estimate, but he said he'd have to order the part and that it would probably be around $250 or so and that he'd be coming back next Thursday to fix it. After he left, I immediately went online to investigate. On GE's main site, the control panel part WE19M1656 is listed as being $174. Here on Appliance Parts Pros it is $117. When checking my service ticket with GE customer service after the appt, I was told that the technician had also placed an order for the "Lexan window" part # WE1M935 (listed on GE official parts for $73 and on this site for $34), as well as the GE circular logo part # we19m1624, which is not very expensive but still less on this site than through GE. So his amount of $250 which he had roughly quoted me seems to be accurate as long as it included all of these pieces. My question is this- based on photos I see of the control panel (WE19M1656), it looks like the Lexan window (we1m935) is included, as well as the logo (we19m1624). Now maybe I am way off base here, since they are in fact different part numbers, but if I already have what seems to be a perfectly fine working Lexan Window and Logo on my current control panel, is there a need for new ones? Ideally, I wish I could just cancel the upcoming GE repair appt and cut my losses at the $90 diagnostic fee (which I didn't receive a bill for...yet), and order the much cheaper parts from you guys and do the job myself, but I fear that if the Lexan window does in fact need to be replaced as well, that the repair would be more involved than I am prepared to attempt. I am no engineer, so I would rather pay slightly more than screw it up on my own. On the flip side however, I'm all for saving a decent amount of money if this repair is as simple as I'm hoping it is. Thanks for any advice and I apologize for the length of this but just wanted to make sure I included everything. Thanks!
1 Answer Don, The lexan window does come as part of the control panel assembly but the logo does not. Read More...
Kevin August 30, 2012 for Model Number GFDS350EL0WW Once the confrol panel is off, how do I fix or replace the power button? It is loose and will not turn the dryer on.
1 Answer Kevin, Once you have the control panel WE19M1656 and User Interface WE4M513 dismounted from the dryer, you will need to separate the two, and check the user interface and button / shaft for cracks, breaks, or distortion. We'll send you some information that should be helpful. Read More...
