Don for Model Number GFDS350EL1WW Hello, I have what appears to be the same issue or repair as Kevin who asked a question before me- I have the GE model # GFDS350EL1WW electric dryer (which is less than 2 years old but out of warranty), and the power button seems to be pushed in too far and thus broken, making it impossible at this point to turn the dryer on. When this problem first arose the other day, I could still turn the unit on (just barely), but with subsequent pushes the button has become worse and worse and now has been rendered completely useless. I called GE when it happened and scheduled a service appt ($90 just to come out, ouch), and the technician came this morning. He popped off the control panel and was doing his thing, then after about 10 min or so , he said that I'd need a new control panel (part # WE19M1656) because the part that broke for the power button is a part of the actual molding of the control panel, therefore that whole piece would need to be replaced. He never left me with a written estimate, but he said he'd have to order the part and that it would probably be around $250 or so and that he'd be coming back next Thursday to fix it. After he left, I immediately went online to investigate. On GE's main site, the control panel part WE19M1656 is listed as being $174. Here on Appliance Parts Pros it is $117. When checking my service ticket with GE customer service after the appt, I was told that the technician had also placed an order for the "Lexan window" part # WE1M935 (listed on GE official parts for $73 and on this site for $34), as well as the GE circular logo part # we19m1624, which is not very expensive but still less on this site than through GE. So his amount of $250 which he had roughly quoted me seems to be accurate as long as it included all of these pieces. My question is this- based on photos I see of the control panel (WE19M1656), it looks like the Lexan window (we1m935) is included, as well as the logo (we19m1624). Now maybe I am way off base here, since they are in fact different part numbers, but if I already have what seems to be a perfectly fine working Lexan Window and Logo on my current control panel, is there a need for new ones? Ideally, I wish I could just cancel the upcoming GE repair appt and cut my losses at the $90 diagnostic fee (which I didn't receive a bill for...yet), and order the much cheaper parts from you guys and do the job myself, but I fear that if the Lexan window does in fact need to be replaced as well, that the repair would be more involved than I am prepared to attempt. I am no engineer, so I would rather pay slightly more than screw it up on my own. On the flip side however, I'm all for saving a decent amount of money if this repair is as simple as I'm hoping it is. Thanks for any advice and I apologize for the length of this but just wanted to make sure I included everything. Thanks!
Answer Don, The lexan window does come as part of the control panel assembly but the logo does not. Read More... Answered by AppliancePartsPros.com | Monday, November 11, 2013
