For Ge Refrigerator Defrost Timer (Part Number: OEM6185094)

Hello PT. Make sure the condenser fan motor is running and the coils in the back are good and clean. It sounds like you may have a defrost problem with the unit. Check and see if there is any frost build up on the back wall of the freezer. If so, you will need to test the defrost heater and the defrost thermostat. They should read closed for continuity when cold. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. I will include a link at the end to assist you how to use the multi-meter if needed. If both parts are good, you will need to replace the defrost timer. Once the problem is repaired, you will need to thaw out the ice on the coils before the unit will operate properly. http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html

Hello Barry, If the food is only freezing in the crisper drawers and near the bottom of the unit, the issue is most likely the temperature setting. Refrigeration is backwards so think of it this way. Cold air is heavier than warm air. If the fans are not running, the cold air will equalize at the bottom of the unit. This will make the items in the bottom of the unit freeze on the fresh food side and the top of the unit will warm up on the freezer side causing slow or some times no ice production. The cure for this is to set the fresh food side to a colder setting which will make the unit kick the fans on more often and circulate the air inside the unit. If this is still too cold, try setting the freezer a number warmer.

Jacob, The terminals 1 and 3 are for the timer motor and if the timer is not advancing and you have no continuity on these terminals then the timer is faulty and would need to be replaced.

Hello Sam. If it was just the bottom, and there was no frost on the top of the evaporator, you have a sealed system issue, and not a defrost issue. You will need an HVAC tech to repair the unit.

Kurt, You will want to check to make sure that the dispenser ice door is closing all the way. If the door is not closing all the way then it will cause the unit to form frost under the ice bin and cause excess frost on the rear wall of unit.
