James June 14, 2014 for Model Number Sears Kenmore Refrigerator #10671282102 built 2003 I was informed by a Sears repair tech that the Adaptive control board on my Kenmore refrigerator model #10671282102 built 2003 freezer over refrigerator needed replacement. The quote was almost $500. I ordered the board, now I need to know where the board is located on the unit, how to access it, and the steps to walk me through replacing it. Are there any special tools needed?
1 Answer Hello James, Unplug the refrigerator and you will need to open the fresh food door and look straight up at the control box. There will be at least two screws holding it to the ceiling of the compartment. When removed, it will lower to provide access to the adaptive defrost control. No special tools are needed. Kevin May 27, 2014 for Model Number TFX20JRBKWW My fresh food side is not cooling, and I suspect the defrost heater is my problem by the iced over coils on freezer. I plan to replace with #WR51X10101. My question is should I replace the defrost control timer as well? My fridge was purchased in 2002
1 Answer Hello Kevin. If the timer is good, then it should be fine. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. Here is a link on how to use a multi-meter. http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html Read More...
Angelo April 17, 2014 for Model Number TFX26KRDAWW Hey guys it's me AGAIN, I'm having trouble with the TFX26KRDAWW If I tap on the control unit (for lack of a better word) In the fridge side the thing will turn on. Now my thermo is discontinued, so I can't get another one, BUT it's just a thermo! Can't I use any fridge Thermo?? So what if it has to hang out of somewhere because it doesn't fit. Right?? Also could it be the defrost timer screwing up?? I have NO ice on the back wall. ONE more....What does that adjustment thing do on the timer? Does it just spin when timing? Thanks Guys see you on Facebook!
1 Answer Angelo, In a lot of cases when you tap the control area and the unit comes back on it would be caused by a timer that is sticking coming out of defrost. One way to check this is when the unit is not running and needs to come back on, take the control cover off and turn the knob on the timer. If the unit turns on then the issue is with the timer not with the thermostat. Read More...
Stickshaker March 28, 2014 for Model Number sxd26vl p1315202wl Refrigerator warm/freezer warm. Overload/starter device doesn't rattle when shook. Cooling down of condenser sensor trips the fan on compressor fan operates, compressor gets warm, no visual signs of frost on coolant lines any suggestions?
1 Answer Stickshaker, If the compressor is running but not hot, only warm, and there is no frost pattern on the coils of the evaporator then the issue will be a sealed system problem. Could be a restriction in the filter dryer, a faulty compressor or leak in the sealed system. Read More...
Ed February 27, 2014 for Model Number Gts22jbpbrww Freezer back panel is frosting up, I replace defrost thermostat & defrost heater & defrost timer, Now I think the new defrost timer is bad. And turn it to defrost mode the same on other terminal Two. other terminal read 0 When I turn the timer to defrost mode the heater get hot when I by pass the thermostat the heater get hot what do I do now? Thank,You Ed
1 Answer Hello Ed, When the unit is in defrost, terminal 3 to terminal 2 should read a complete circuit, (0 ohms). When in run, terminal 3 to terminal 4 will read a complete circuit. If these read good and the timer motor runs when 120Vac is applied across terminals 3 to 1, there is no problem with the timer. You should let the unit run until down to temperature and advance the timer into the defrost cycle and look a the heater. It will heat up if operating properly, (as long as the defrost thermostat is below 50°F). If this happens properly, you should check for voltage to the timer motor. The timer has to advance in order to kick into and out of defrost. The defrost timer gets its' voltage from the temperature control. Read More...

Tom D. October 05, 2013 Where can I find the timing specifications for defrost timer model wr09x0489 used on a GE Monogram Refrigerator? I have replaced the defrost heater (1st) and the timer next. The refrigerator is now getting below 50 degrees and the heater now defrosts the evaporator. Is 35-38 degrees the optimal refrigerator temperatures. Thank you. Tom
1 Answer Tom, Yes the temp for the refrigerator on the center position should be 38 degrees plus or minus 3 degrees. We do not have specific specs on the defrost timer. Read More...
Dave R September 04, 2013 for Model Number TPS24BPDB BS My evaporator is frosting up. Every couple of months I need to unplug the refrig and let it defrost. The timer seems to be okay. I can turn it until the fan and compressor stops. I wait about a half hour and the compressor and fan start backup. Should I be able to feel warmth on the rear of the freezer section when I turn the timer to the defrost cycle? (I do this while the freezer is still cold). I was thinking of just replacing the heater and thermostat assembly. The refrig is a GE model TPS24BPDB BS. This model does not should on you list of models. The closest model is TPS24BPDA BS. Is this model the same as the TPS24BPDB BS? I think the refrig is over 10 years old. Should I replace the timer as well? Thanks Dave
1 Answer Hello Dave. It sounds like you may have a defrost problem with the unit. Check and see if there is any frost build up on the evaporator coils in the freezer. If so, you will need to test the defrost heater and the defrost thermostat. They should read closed for continuity when cold. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. I will include a link at the end to assist you how to use the multi-meter if needed. If both parts are good, you will need to replace the defrost timer. Once the problem is repaired, you will need to thaw out the ice on the coils before the unit will operate properly. http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html Read More...
