Yoyaya June 17, 2020 for Model Number ZISS42DCASS I have an old GE Monogram. Both freezer and fresh food sides were warm before I replaced the defrost timer, now the freezer is normal (below 0 F), but the fresh food side is still warm, what could be the problem?

Greg June 14, 2020 for Model Number ZIS42NCA Freezer is fine, but refrigerator door was left ajar overnight and would not cool the next day. Unplugged unit and left doors open for 24 hours, then everything worked fine. 1 week later went grocery shopping & after loading noticed foo was not getting cold in refrigerator, same result next morning. Freezer fine through all. Suspected maybe was defrost timer, turned it with screwdriver until "clicked" & compressor/fan turned off; immediately noticed water on sides of freezer & inside refrigerator, let defrost for a few hours, then turned the timer back until compressor kicked on. Things now seem to be cooling properly but I suspect the defrost timer is bad so ordered a new one, which will arrive in 2 days. What do I do in the meantime? Do I need to manually turn off timer every 6 hours & let defrost for 30 minutes, then turn back on?

John December 30, 2019 for Model Number PTC22SBMALBS GE Profile drain freezes and the bottom of the freezer fills with Ice. I manually defrosted the unit, flushed with hot water which drained into the pan. blew the line out. wrapped a 12 gauge wire around the coil and into the drain. worked well for months. issue returned. attempted to replace the defrost timer. the original part was wr9x490 replacement part wr9x502. the fridge does not function with the replacement timer. put the original timer back in and the unit comes on. any thoughts? thanks
1 Answer John, the new defrost timer may have been in the defrost cycle portion and can be rotated into run mode by using a flat head screwdriver. However, in regards to the defrost drain freezing up, it can certainly be from the original defrost timer short cycling or from a clog in the defrost drain. Michael June 29, 2019 for Model Number GTS18XCSFRWW I noticed fridge was warm and freezer was getting warm too. Checked compressor relay and compressor and capacitor all checked out. Checked the defrost heater for proper ohm reading and it came out good. The defrost heater stays on constantly. I checked the defrost timer for continuity on pins per tech sheet all came out good except for pins 3 and 1 read open. does this mean that this is bad and should get a new one?

1 Answer Jim, The original defrost timer had a 35 minute defrost cycle, the replacement defrost timer has a 25 minute defrost cycle. These are the "total" defrost cycle times. The defrost heater is controlled through the defrost heater and opens at 53 degrees regardless of time(usually takes 10 to 15 mins.). Once the thermostat opens and "turns the defrost heaters off " the remainder of the total defrost tome is used to evacuate the defrost water and condensation into the drain pan, then the compressor should start, run and start cooling.
