The Door Switch is an OEM part for GE dryers, designed to ensure the dryer does not operate when the door is open. This safety feature is crucial for preventing accidents and ensuring the appliance operates efficiently and safely. The switch signals the dryer's control system about the status of the door—if it's open or closed—thereby allowing or preventing the start of a drying cycle.

Causes of damage to the door switch often include mechanical wear from repeated use, accidental damage from loading or unloading, or electrical issues such as short circuits.

Symptoms of a bad Door Switch include:

  • The dryer not starting when the door is closed
  • The dryer continuing to run when the door is opened
  • Unusual noises or the dryer stopping mid-cycle

This OEM GE part is also compatible with Hotpoint, RCA, and some Kenmore models.

Lynn, Presumably you mean the metal terminals of the switch. If the switch is still intact you can use a small flat blade screwdriver and pry the wire terminal off the switch. If the switch has fallen apart, you will need a pair of pliers and a pair of needle nose pliers as well. Use the "regular" pliers to hold the terminal still and stationary and use the screwdriver or needle nose pliers to pry the wire terminal off the switch terminal.

There will be a spring clip on either side that you will depress to lift the top. Once lifted there is a screw on either side that holds the panel on. Remove screws and lift panel off.

Hello Manny, I think you need to go back into the unit and look for a switch on the idler arm. This switch keeps the unit from running if the belt comes off.
