The Heating Element Assembly is an OEM part for GE dryers. It is responsible for generating the heat necessary to dry clothes during the drying cycle. This assembly includes the heating element itself, which heats up when electricity passes through it, and the housing that supports and protects the element.

You should replace this heating element assembly if it becomes faulty. Causes of a bad heating element assembly can include wear and tear over time, overheating due to blocked airflow, or damage from electrical issues.

Symptoms of a bad heating element assembly include:

  • Clothes not drying properly
  • No heat during the drying cycle
  • Longer drying times
  • The dryer not getting warm

This GE replacement part is also compatible with Hotpoint, RCA, and some Kenmore models.

For Ge Heating Element Assembly (Part Number: OEM7859871)

Kshowde388 for Model Number DDSR475ET4WW

I have this GE Electric Dryer: Model # DDSR475ET4WW . This dryer is from around the 1997 timeframe. Works great otherwise. So far I"ve only had to replace the Green colored bearing slides. The high heat cycle seems to not be heating correctly. I can dry load of clothes on the medium (permanent press cycle) but when trying to use the High Heat Cottons cycle it seems to not work properly. I've cleaned all of the lint out of the ducts etc. but still performs the same. I can hold the door switch down watch it run and can see the glow of the heating element th back when on the medium setting. I switch it to cottons, high heat and the heating elements start to glow then after a very short period, say 10-15 seconds they shut off. Looks like a thermostat issue but I'm questioniong why would it continue to run on medium if it were a thermostat issue? Could be one of the heating coils? Any help is appreciated! Hello Kevin. If the dryer is in a room where it is really cold, you are dealing with condensation in the dryer. You will need to move the dryer to where the dryer vent can get plenty of sun light to dry the moisture inside the unit after a drying cycle. Hope this helps.

Hello Bridget. Check and make sure you have 240 volts coming to the dryer. Check and make sure the unit is not set to Air Fluff. Also check the heater WE11M23 and thermal fuses WE4M160 WE4M137 and see if they are good. You can test these with a multi-meter MA-DM1. They should read closed for continuity. Here is a link on how to use a multi-meter. Hope this helps. http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html

Hi Pat. Your heating element probably shorted to ground causing low amount of heat. This part # is WE11M23. Did you change the cycling thermostat? If not then you will need to change it as it will get shorted terminals and cause a high heat runnaway. This part # is WE4M156. Thank you.
