Questions & Answers

For Ge Refrigerator Ice Maker Assembly (Part Number: OEM20674845)

1 Answer

Hello Brian. During the first 15 seconds that power is first applied to the icemaker, the Service Diagnostics Test mode may be entered. The Service Mode is entered by pushing the feeler arm in and out three times within 15 seconds. (only three times). There will be only one fill cycle (5.1 second) in the service diagnostics mode without the waiting period for the mold to “pre-chill”. If the icemaker has already started a harvest cycle and the arm is moving, it may be impossible to start the service mode. (since the NORMAL cycle is already started).

Natalie for Model Number GTS22WCP

Icemaker stopped making ice. It is a top freezer, old fashioned kind. The water coming out of the line that fills the icemaker freezes up. I defrosted it with a hair dryer and it worked for a day. Then the same thing happened. The water coming out of the line froze up and blocked the flow to the tray. I defrosted again with hair dryer but then water just flowed and dripped from the trays into the bucket below. Did not freeze, just steady dripped into the bucket. We turned off the water and unlplugged the ice maker. Do I need a new icemaker or is this a valve problem? thanks,

Jeff for Model Number TFX30PRYAWW

I have a GE TFX30PRYAWW from 1996. It's Ice Maker is the WR30X0306 Can 7. The replacement ice maker (WR30X10093) fill cups will NOT work with my fridge. My fridge has the fill tube on the far right, coming straight in from the back of the freezer box. The replacement does not offer a fill cup that will work. I can not use the fill cup from the original old ice maker because GE swapped the locations of the snap in tab and drain funnel. The old fill cup will NOT connect to the new ice maker. Do you offer a fill cup where the fill tube hole is in the BACK? Any suggestions??

1 Answer

Jeff, On the fill cup there is a hole on the side which is for the type of installation that you have the only difference is you have to cover the back hole so that water does not splash out. Use a metal foil tape or something of that nature to cover that area.

Hello Rob. It sounds like the icemaker is bad and will need to be replaced on the unit.

Jim, Typically with a frost type of issue it will be caused by an air leak. Would want to check for air leak around the door gasket of the unit. The other cause that is possible would be that the evaporator fan is coming on prior to the unit finishing the defrost cycle. If this is occuring and the defrost thermistor has been replaced then the main control board would be the issue.

Jim, If there is too much water getting into the icemaker then it can cause the ice to not break apart but normally if it is just falling a short distance into the bin then it also will not break apart but will normally do so during the dispensing of the ice.

Jack W for Model Number GE WR30X10093

Original ice maker went bad, wouldn't stop, prob a thermostat. Bought the GE WR30X10093 and confirmed it was correct replacement with GE (original wr30x0327 can9). Ice maker ran cycles but wouldn't draw water. Tested valves, water line and manual trigger to cycle. Nothing. Had service tech come and go over everything, said it was a bad ice maker, so I sent it back and got another one. Same problem. Are these really compatible or am I missing something in operation?

1 Answer

Jack, Yes this icemaker would be compatible and you would need to cycle the icemaker and test for power at the water valve to see if there is power getting to the valve at the time the icemaker calls for water. If you are trying to manually advance the icemaker and it does not start into the cycle then you will want to test for power getting to the icemaker. If there is no power and your unit has a control board then the control board would be the issue.

Jeff, You will want to check the temperature in the freezer to make sure that it is getting below 15 degrees. The optimal temp in the freezer should be 0 degrees. If the temp is not correct then check the evaporator coils for a frost pattern. If impacted with ice then would be a defrost issue. There should be a nice even frost pattern from top to bottom.

Hello O.C. It sounds like the freezer is too cold. It needs to be 0 to 5°. If it is to cold, it will cycle before the ice is frozen in the icemaker.
