Billy January 03, 2013 for Model Number CTX18GAZARWW I have a burned out light switch. How do you test circuit to tell what burned out the switch? Also, what steps do I do to get to the wiring and take off the bottom liner?
1 Answer Hello Billy, This is most often caused by a bad light socket WR2X9391. Remove the light bulb and look inside the socket. A bad socket will normally show signs of excessive heat by showing discoloration. The wiring is not accessible to the light switch since it is inside the blown in insulation. You can remove the switch and test from each wire to ground. Read More...
Doug October 18, 2012 for Model Number GE Monogram Refrigerator mfd 12/96 model ZIS36NYA I need to replace the light switch in the fresh food compartment... the switch that turns the light on when the door is opened. I searched your site for the part number for my model. Part # wr23x10143 comes up. However, this part shows that it plugs in while the directions say it is attached to wires. Please advise the following: 1. Is this the correct part number for this model built in 1996? 2. Does the switch plug in or is it wired? 3. Do I remove the switch by prying it out with screw driver and putty knife (your instructions say this is correct) or do I have to access it from the top? 4. If pried out, which side is the retainer clip on? Thank you.
1 Answer Hello Doug, yes the correct light switch for this model number is WR23X37285. The switch will plug in and you will remove it by using a putty knife to press the tab in on the side and work it out. If you look at the third picture, you will notice the tab on that side and the switch unpressed pointing up. Look at your switch if the switch swings back, it would be on the right side, Thanks! Steve August 01, 2012 for Model Number ZISW42EMC Thank you! However, the reason that this answer does not work is because my refrigerator is an older unit and the original switch is a WR23X5155 rather than the current replacement WR23X10143. Please refer to your GE service manuals and/or contact GE on my behalf and find out how to correctly remove the WR23X5155 rather than the WR23x20243. Many thanks!!
1 Answer Hello Steve. After looking at the old switch and checking with the manufacture, the old switch is removed the same way according to the manufacture. You'll need a putty knife or similar tool, a small flat blade"pocket screw driver, and some sort of tape. First turn power off to the fridge. Place a piece of tape on the trim panel on both sides of the switch( this is to keep from damaging the S/S trim panel. Using the screwdriver, pry down on the right side of the switch, and use the putty knife to press in on the retiner tab until the right side of the switch is half way down (3/8 to 1/2 inch), Use the putty knife and slip it between the left side of the switch and trim and pry down on the switch carefully. At this point you should be able to "wiggle the switch out of the opening. you need to be careful and not accidentally knock the wires off the switch terminals. Detach the wires one at a time and attach then to the new switch terminals, reverse the procedure and re establish power to the refrigerator. Read More...
Steve J August 01, 2012 for Model Number ZISW42EMC I am unable to remove old swtich WR23X10143 per the normal instructions which say to push the clip on the right and turn the switch to the left. There is no apparent clip and the switch will move partially out and then jam. I also saw a You Tube video where a technician did this successfully, but this is not working on my unit. There must be some other trick to this. Please help. Telephone 626-576-8443.
1 Answer Steve, There are no "official" instructions for this repair in the service manual. Basically, you'll need a putty knife or similar tool, a small flat blade"pocket screw driver, and some sort of tape. Steve July 29, 2012 for Model Number ZISW42EM(B)(C)(D) GE Monogram Refrigerator Regarding door switch # WR23X10143: I cannot get the switch to turn 90 degrees to allow the wiring connections to clear the opening and get the switch out. I am supposed to push on a tab on the right side to release the switch, but I see no tab. The switch is starting to deform and I still cannot release it. I even watched a "You Tube" where the tab is pushed and the switch turns right out - but I cannot seem to do this. Could there be something different about this switch? It is possible that the mounting hole in my unit is cut slightly smaller than specified? I would like to inspect this situation for correct diagnosis before I order new switches. Many thanks! Steve 626-576-8443
1 Answer Steve, You'll need to go at this from the above the doors(bottom of the compressor compartment). You' need to open or remove the upper grille panel "Remove the grille panel by removing 2 screws from each side. Remove the wire guard and rocker switch panel. " Once you have the wire guard removed from the lower front portion of the compressor compartment, you'll have access to the door switches and wiring harness. Just make sure you remove power to the refrigerator before you start. Read More...
Joe M. May 15, 2012 for Model Number 550 Will this work as a replacement for my Sub-Zero door light switch before I spend my money?
1 Answer Hello Joe, While they are both probably rated for 120Vac, it's hard to say whether it's rated for the same current draw and the dimensions could also be different enough that it might not mount properly. As a technician, and not an engineer, I would recommend to contact the two manufacturers indidviually and get the information on each switch so you can compare exact information. We do not have the information on the parts to do a proper evaluation. Read More...
