The Probe Sensor (ATC) is an OEM replacement part for GE washers. It plays a key role in monitoring water levels and temperatures during cycles.

Symptoms of a bad probe sensor include:

  • Incorrect or inconsistent fill levels
  • Fluctuations in water temperature
  • Delays or failures at the start of cycles
  • Error codes related to lack of temperature/level readings

Causes can include normal wear over time as the delicate internal components are subjected to constant temperature changes and immersion in water. Mineral deposits or contaminants may also affect performance.

This GE replacement is also compatible with Hotpoint, RCA, and some Kenmore models.

Puzzled, It is very possible for the water to leak out from the sensor. It is very possible for this issue to also be caused by high water pressure. If possible try to lower the water pressure and see if it helps with the leaking issue.

Hello Omar, I the unit is filling and stops when you unplug it from the wall outlet, the issue is electrical and you should suspect the pressure switch WH12X10412. If the water continues to fill the unit when unplugged from the wall outlet, you will need to replace the water inlet valve WH13X10037.

Hello Joe. All the sensor does is reads the temp of the water hot and cold mixing together. If it is leaking, it sounds more like the funnel on the unit and not the sensor.

Debbie for Model Number GTWN5050M0WS

Washer kicks into rinse cycle and DOES NOT stop filling with water and OVERFLOWS. Have had to purchase a shop vac. So the good ole days of putting your clothes in the washer and walking away is over. I have to stand there and wait for the desired amount of water to fill and then you have to manually agitate your clothing in the off mode then drain and spin. Because REMEMBER, it wont stop filling up with water. I have always owned G.E. products and have been very happy, the new HE washers... I hate hate hate it, not enough water to get your clothes wet during wash cycle, now with new problem, rinse cycle overflow. What part do I need to purchase for my washer and can I install it myself.?

1 Answer

Debbie, You will want to check to see if the water stops filling if you unplug the unit. If it does then the most likely cause for the issue will be that either the pressure hose is clogged up or has a bad control board. The control board would be the most likely cause for this issue. The part number for the control board is WH12X10475.

Roger, When replacing the thermistor probe on your unit you will use a putty knife in between the main top and the front panel. There are spring clips one on either side. Push them in and lift the main top. This will give access to the sensor. Also remove the control panel by removing 3 screws from the top back. Once removed roll the panel forward and the sensor wires will go in the hole and into the control panel.
