The Spark Module is an OEM replacement part for GE gas ranges. It is responsible for generating electric sparks to ignite the gas burners on the cooktop. The spark module produces consecutive sparks when a surface burner knob is turned on, which ignite the gas mixture and allows the burner flame to ignite safely and consistently.

Causes of a bad spark module can include faulty electrodes, worn internal components that hamper sparking, or damage due to moisture intrusion or power surges over time.

Symptoms of a bad spark module include:

  • Burners that will not ignite or only intermittently ignite
  • Flashback or burning above the burner head
  • The smell of gas when turning burners on

This GE replacement part is also compatible with models from Hotpoint, RCA, and certain Kenmore gas ranges.

For Ge Spark Module (Part Number: OEM6061719)

Hello Everett, I'm sorry but we need you to verify the model number from the units' I.D. tag. There may be addition numbers before the decimal point in different font. This sounds like you probably have a bad start switch harness, These are the switches on the surface gas valves. They are in series and all connect through the same harness so it would be the first suspect. It is also possible that the spark module has failed.

My cook top sends out a spark every 1 minute or so, I changed the ignition module and replaced electrodes to no avail, replaced another module thinking I got a bad one and still the same. I reviewed the switches and they all look good but my next step is to replace them. When I plugged multi-meter on ac-hot and neutral at the module, I got readings of up to 250mVAC when the module discharged and then volts would drop down approx. 100mVA and continue to rise to 250, discharge again and so on (this is happening while no switch is turned on). When you turn each knob the module works properly discharging at a normal rate every few seconds. Any idea what could cause this,

My oven would not ignite. I read the manual, removed the cook top to look for and check the safety switch on the pressure control valve. It was not there. I cleaned the area and removed the warming tray to find the safety switch and it was ok. I replaced the igniter on the oven and that took care of the oven issue. But...the burners failed to spark when turned to the lite position. There was no clicking to ignite the burners. This was not an issue before I tried to "fix" the oven. So I replaced the spark module and the burners will still not ignite, no clicking when turned to the lite position. What should I do next? John

Johniem, You will want to check the ignition switch wires to ensure that they are firmly attached to the spark module. If this checks ok then do a continuity test of the ignition switches. In the lite position they should have continuity. If not then the issue will be the switch.

Steve, It is quite possible for the spark module to fail for 1 igniter not working but still work for the other 3. You will want to inspect the igniter for cracked insulation but also test the ignition switch on the burner valve to make sure that the switch has continuity when in the light position. If these check ok then replace the spark module.

Manof Steel, With all of them going out at one time, this issue would be more likely to be the spark module WB13K25 then the ignition switches. You can test the ignition switches in the light position for continuity and if there is continuity then they are good.

Hello Gfactor. You need to check all the wiring and replace the control board on the unit.

Only 1 and sometimes 2 of the ignitor electrodes spark when turning on any of the valves to light. Removing the burner heads, I can hear the burner spark module click. All of the spark electrodes are clean as well as the burner heads. When putting on the burner heads, one at a time, only the RF will spark fairly consistently. Sometimes even it will not spark, especially if it is warm, like it was on a few minutes ago. The RR burner head sparks intermittently, and the LF and LR will not spark at all now. The electrodes are clean and do not seem to be worn at all. This problem has been getting gradually worse over the last year. I have cleaned the ends of the electrodes and the burner heads, and they are spotless. I have pushed the burner heads to the side to make sure they come in contact with the air-gas mixing tube, which is also spotless and shiny, to make firm electrical contact to no avail. the question is, would it be the ignitors or the module, or the wires between the tow?

Jerry, The issue sounds more like it would the spark module that would be causing the issue. It is possible that the wires could be faulty but would suspect the spark module.

Mano for Model Number JGP337SEJ3SS

Hello, I had posted a question in this regard, but had included the wrong model number. All the burners are functional but one of the burners (left rear), makes a single clicking sound every 5 minutes, regardless of its state, On or Off. I have verified that the clicking is due to a single spark on this burner. Was wondering if the problem is caused by a faulty spark module, or is related to the ignitor switch or something else? Thanks again in advance for your help.

1 Answer

Mano, You will want to do a continuity test on the ignition switches to see if there are any that show continuity. If a switch shows continuity in the off position then the switch is faulty. If they do not show continuity then the spark module would be the issue.

Hello Karen. Based on the information you provided, it sounds like the control is bad and will need to be replaced on the unit.
