The Spark Module is an OEM replacement part for GE gas ranges. It is responsible for generating electric sparks to ignite the gas burners on the cooktop. The spark module produces consecutive sparks when a surface burner knob is turned on, which ignite the gas mixture and allows the burner flame to ignite safely and consistently.

Causes of a bad spark module can include faulty electrodes, worn internal components that hamper sparking, or damage due to moisture intrusion or power surges over time.

Symptoms of a bad spark module include:

  • Burners that will not ignite or only intermittently ignite
  • Flashback or burning above the burner head
  • The smell of gas when turning burners on

This GE replacement part is also compatible with models from Hotpoint, RCA, and certain Kenmore gas ranges.

Chris, You will want to pull the panel off of the gas manifold and check the ignition switches for continuity in the off position. If any of them have continuity then the switch is bad and would need to be replaced. If the switches check ok then inspect the wiring from the switches to the spark module for damage and check the wires form the spark module to the igniter for damage. If the wiring checks ok then replace the spark module.
