The Spark Module is an OEM replacement part for GE gas ranges. It is responsible for generating electric sparks to ignite the gas burners on the cooktop. The spark module produces consecutive sparks when a surface burner knob is turned on, which ignite the gas mixture and allows the burner flame to ignite safely and consistently.

Causes of a bad spark module can include faulty electrodes, worn internal components that hamper sparking, or damage due to moisture intrusion or power surges over time.

Symptoms of a bad spark module include:

  • Burners that will not ignite or only intermittently ignite
  • Flashback or burning above the burner head
  • The smell of gas when turning burners on

This GE replacement part is also compatible with models from Hotpoint, RCA, and certain Kenmore gas ranges.

Steve for Model Number JGBP40BEC3WH

I have been trying to find what color wires from the Hv harnsess go to which igniter. I.E. what burner does the yellow, white and blue wire go to. I have 3 out of 4 burners working with the ignitor. I switched the ignitor from the bad burner with a known good one and it still won't work. when i switch the wires around it changes which burner won't work. so I think one of my switches doesn't work; but i need to know the proper location for the wires to ignitors before i can determine if it is a switch

Julia, If you unplug the power cord and wait another couple of days, or remove the burner knob and use a blow dryer to dry the ignition switch and wires, it'll probably solve the issue itself. If the problem persists, then you will want to start at the burner valve ignition switch WB24T10071 , the contacts could have shorted because of the water, then the spark module WB13K25. Good Luck and Thanks

Hello Tom. The module should spark all the burners and the gas is only released to the burner that is turned on. Then when the flame lites, it grounds out and turn the module WB13K25 off. Hope this helps.

Hi Tina. Yes if all top burners are not lighting, then it is a spark module part # WB13K25. It is mounted to the left of the clock control panel. Remove power and the back control panel . From the back it is mounted on the right. Make sure you have a clean tight ground connection. Replace wires one at a time or take notes of connections. (cell phone picture if needed ). Thank You.

Hello. No, the oven safety valve does not open, unless the igniter comes on and sends the voltage to it. Sorry.

Hello Kathy. You will need to test and see if there is power coming to the igniter WB13K18. If so, and the igniter does not spark, replace the igniter. Also, make sure the burner and the igniter are clean. If not, it can prevent the unit from sparking. If there is no power to it, you may need to replace the spark module WB13K25. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. Here is a link on how to use a multi-meter. Hope this helps. http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html
