The Temperature Sensor is an OEM replacement part for GE refrigerators, designed to accurately monitor and relay the temperature inside the refrigerator and freezer compartments to the electronic control board. By detecting the slightest changes in internal temperature, the sensor allows the control board to make real-time adjustments to the cooling system, activating the compressor and fans as needed to maintain optimal conditions for food preservation.

Over time, the temperature sensor can fail due to electrical issues, exposure to moisture, or general wear and tear. A malfunctioning sensor can lead to improper temperature regulation, affecting the efficiency of the refrigerator and the freshness of stored food.

Symptoms of a bad Temperature Sensor include:

  • The refrigerator or freezer not maintaining the set temperature
  • The appliance running continuously or more frequently than normal
  • Inaccurate temperature readings displayed

This OEM GE part can also be used on Hotpoint, RCA, and Kenmore/Sears appliances.

Rsarkar for Model Number GE PDS22SBRALSS

I have a 14 years old GE fridge PDS22SBRALSS . For the last couple of months the temperature is warm in both the freezer and the fridge. We have cleaned the condensor coils. It seemed to get better but then again got worse in about a week. Then we noticed ice in the freezer and then manually defrosted the fridge. It worked well for about 4 weeks. Again the problem has reappeared. It seems to be a problem with the defrost system. I could not find a defrost timer for it. Could the thermistor be the problem? From what I saw online it said that thermistors on GE fridges from before 2005 had a high rate of failure. Is this the correct thermistor for it? Also how many thermistors does it have? 3 or 4? Thank you, Sarkar

RSarkar, You will want to test the thermistor which is part number WR55X10025 for a resistance at 0 degrees of 42.2K ohms of resistance. If this checks ok then test the defrost heater and defrost thermostat to make sure that they have continuity. If they check good then the issue will be the control board on the unit.

Yamika, It does not matter which wire is connected to which connector on this temp sensor.

Gordon, With the temperatures being correct then this likely will not be an issue with the thermistor in the unit. The fan will run for extended periods of time but only uses 12 vdc so will not cause the power to run high.

Slade, Check to make sure that the compressor is running. If the compressor is not running then this will likely be an issue with the start relay on the compressor. If the compressor is running then this will be a issue with the sealed system and will need service.

Hello Suzie. That is not always the case. On the Frigidaire brand there is some models that have a garage kit. Most brands do not offer any. They recommend the unit be placed in a room of at least 50°. Thank you.

Bridgette, You will want to check the damper in the unit to make sure that the damper assembly is working properly as this would be the most likely issue. The part number will be WR17X12456.
