The Timer is an OEM part for GE dryers that is responsible for ensuring that the dryer operates for the set amount of time, enabling different cycles and functions to occur at the correct intervals. The timer regulates the start, duration, and end of each drying cycle. Over time, timers can wear out or malfunction due to electrical issues or mechanical wear, leading to problems with the dryer's operation.

Symptoms of a bad Timer include:

  • The dryer failing to start or stop at the proper times.
  • Only certain cycles working.
  • The dryer running continuously without shutting off.

Causes of a bad timer can stem from a variety of issues, including electrical shorts, worn contacts within the timer mechanism. Regular usage and age can contribute to these problems.

This OEM GE part can also be used on Hotpoint, RCA, and Kenmore/Sears appliances.

Shona for Model Number GTDX108ED0WW

The knob cracked inside wouldn’t turn the timer so I would use pliers to grab the little plastic white piece sticking out (that went inside the knob) so this piece broke off finally after 4 years. Do I replace the entire timer for that little plastic piece that broke off that turns it? That’s a huge expense for a perfectly fine timer that just had a faulty piece of plastic for the dial and an knob that cracked due to not being reinforced with metal to begin with.

Shona, Yes, that shaft is a part of the timer and is not available without the timer.
