The Washer Door Lock Switch is an OEM part for LG washing machines. This critical safety feature locks the washer door during operation to prevent it from being opened, which ensures safety and proper functioning. The door lock switch also communicates with the washer's control system to indicate that the door is securely closed and the machine can begin its cycle.

Symptoms of a bad Washer Door Lock Switch include:

  • The washing machine refusing to start, despite the door appearing to be closed.
  • The door failing to lock properly, or the lock releasing prematurely during a cycle.
  • Error messages on the washer's display related to door closure issues.

Causes of a bad door lock switch can include mechanical failures such as worn or damaged locking mechanisms, electrical issues like faulty wiring or failed solenoids, or alignment problems that prevent the door from engaging the switch properly.

This OEM LG part is also compatible with Sears/Kenmore models.

Hello Greg. If the unit locks, but it does not show it is locked, then it sounds like the lock assembly may be bad on the unit. However, make sure the wiring is good on the unit first.

Richard P for Model Number Kenmore washer model 796.40272900

I get a "dE" error code after closing the front-loader door and starting a cycle. I can hear the door clicking, as if it's trying to lock. Then the error comes up. I have unplugged the machine, cleaned all around the door seal, there is no reason I should be getting this error as far as I can tell. I installed a new door switch assembly, but still I get the dE error. Now I've been told by Sears that the problem is "The door is out of position when the door is closed preventing the latch from opening properly resulting in the DE error code. You will need to replace the inner door frame over the hinge." I thought the next step would be to consider replacing the control board, but now I'm being told something else. Do you have an opinion? I saw what the inner door frame over the hinge part looks like. It's hard to believe that the door is out of position. Thanks. Richard

Richard, While it is possible that the door could be causing the issue, for that to occur the door would have to be sagging. If this is not the case then check the wiring between the door latch and the main board and if this checks ok then the control board would be the issue.

Hello Darrell. The lock assembly needs to be in the washer to test it. You do a power test.

Hello Brenda, If you plugged the new switch EBF49827801 back in there is either a problem with the harness or the control board EBF49827801 is not recognizing the signal being sent to it by the switch.

Alice, The DE is certainly a door lock switch assembly issue in which the door lock would need to be replaced.

Hello Jean, These machines will normally have a diagnostic mode in the controls that will point you to the issue. We have no way to provide an accurate diagnosis without the model number from the units' I.D. tag so if you could please re-post with this information, we can assist you much more accurately in solving your problem.

Joshua, IF the error code looks like a Capital DE then the issue will be drain issue. If the error is a dE then the issue would be a door latch assembly that would be causing the error. You will want to check the drain to see if there is any type of restriction and if that checks ok then check the door latch assembly. Check to make sure that the door is all the way closed. Check for loose electrical connections at the door switch and control board and if these check ok then replace the door switch assembly.
