The Washer Door Lock Switch is an OEM part for LG washing machines. This critical safety feature locks the washer door during operation to prevent it from being opened, which ensures safety and proper functioning. The door lock switch also communicates with the washer's control system to indicate that the door is securely closed and the machine can begin its cycle.

Symptoms of a bad Washer Door Lock Switch include:

  • The washing machine refusing to start, despite the door appearing to be closed.
  • The door failing to lock properly, or the lock releasing prematurely during a cycle.
  • Error messages on the washer's display related to door closure issues.

Causes of a bad door lock switch can include mechanical failures such as worn or damaged locking mechanisms, electrical issues like faulty wiring or failed solenoids, or alignment problems that prevent the door from engaging the switch properly.

This OEM LG part is also compatible with Sears/Kenmore models.

Questions & Answers

For Lg Washer Door Lock Switch (Part Number: OEM14996553)

1 Answer

Kurt, The washer does not have to be reset when replacing the door lock assembly and with this occurring with a new door lock assembly then this will most likely be a faulty main control board.

Chris, You will want to test the filter where the cord plugs into. Test both sides, the one where the power cord plugs for 120 vac. Then test the other side for 120 vac. If there is 120 vac where the cord plugs but not on the other side then will be a issue with the filter assembly. If this checks ok for power in and out then the issue will be the main board.

Ive got a DE code. My switch makes a clicking noise but the latch just twitches if it even moves at all. (I was observing the assembly with the top panel slid back a few inches) This unit was in storage for several months and while I was unpatiently attempting to move it in, it slid off the dolly on to its face with the door kicked open. This dented the face some so I pulled the machine apart and worked the metal with a rubber mallet as close as I could back to the factory form..... and I thought I did a pretty good job. I paid very close attention to the hinges, latch, and the sealing surface and I felt (and still feel) that the mechanical components are aligned and functioning as they should. I threw a new switch at it because of the circumstance, assuming a faulty swith had to be my culprit, and it does the exact same thing. I inspected the wiring to the board and found no obvious faults. I believe my problem is in the board.. now... but I'm deep enough into the machine already and I wanna be able to accurately diagnosis the board as bad before I swap it to find out it's something else. What are the 4 wires going to the switch and what can I test for to confirm a board failure? There is an orange, blue, red, and black. Ive got a meter and understand the basic operations. Thanks for the thoughts. Aaron

Aaron, With the front panel having been damaged, the DE error code would most likely not be caused by the control board. This issue would most likely be that the front panel needs to be replaced even though it has ben banged out. The reason for this is the door strike is apparently not making contact with the latch assembly and no matter how much it is banged out will most likely have an issue. It is recommended to replace the door strike and the front panel of the unit.

Gary, There is not a adjustment for the door latch but if you are having to lift the door any to make it close then it may have loose hinges. You will need to tighten the hinges and otherwise the issue would most likely be a door boot issue.

Washer runs through cycle completely and normally. At the end of the cycle, the door unlocks and the light turns on, as normal. However, after the allotted time, when the light should shut off, the light does not shut off. The whole washer then can no longer be turned on. Through it all, the light stays on. Unplugging the washer and letting the power drain out, then plugging it back in resets it. Another load can then be run completely and normally. If I get to the washer before the washer trips (so-to-speak), I can run another load normally without having to unplug and plug in the washer. Is this the door lock switch or something else? Thanks

1 Answer

Hello Lori, This is most likely the door switch EBF49827801 failing to unlock. This can be caused by the door switch, (most likely), or the control EBR38163302 failing to send the signal to the door switch to unlock.

Hello Graham. Check for a wiring issue with the unit. If none is found, you will need to order and replace the board on the unit.

Clyde for Model Number LG Washer (Inverter Direct Drive)

Hi, thanks for all your help. Great videos! I've been getting the DE error code and bought a Door Lock Switch Assembly. After installing, I'm still getting the DE error code. After pressing the power button and pressing the start button, it clicks a couple times and then the error code comes up. I read another gentlemen's post and you mentioned checking the wiring between the door lock and the control panel, I believe, as an alternative problem. How do I do this? And if this doesn't work, what else should I try? Thank you. Cordially, Clyde

1 Answer

Clyde, You will want to check the wiring between the door lock assembly and the main board for corrosion on the connectors and also test the wires for continuity to make sure that the wires are good. If the wiring is ok then the issue will be with the main control board of the unit.

N, To open the door you will need to remove the main top and there will be a metal piece on the back side of the latch. You will slide this away from the door latch which will unlock the door. You may have to pull out on it get it to slide.
