Hello William, If the compressor is running and the unit is cooling, the light on the board will not be an issue. You should verify voltage to the icemaker and to the water valve for about 7 seconds near the end of the cycle. The issue is most likely going to be a connection or harness issue.

Neither the refrigerator or freezer are getting cold at all it started working after unplugging but then failed after 3 days with no errors the compressor and fan are running and I have 10 ohms across the compressor pins. The red light on the inverter pcb is on steady. I have 2.5 volts on CN75 pin 4, I can feel the step motor valve running when I plug in the refrigerator and I have 40 ohms across the coils.Do you have any recommendations on what the problem might be.

1 Answer

Dave, With the compressor running but the unit not getting cold it would be recommended to have service out to check for a sealed system issue which will be the most likely cause.

Kat for Model Number RFG298AABP/XAA

Fridge and freezer stopped cooling. Checked for error codes -none displayed. Condenser fan working. On PCB steady red light. Spoke to repairman over telephone and he said from his experience the compressors on these fridges only last 6-7 years and the cost for him to come out and look at the fridge and repair it would be $500-$700. I said I would think about it. He then called and asked me to check if it was in store dispay mode. I checked and it is not. Wonder if it is the relay O/L or the inverter board Should I order both or check if it is the relay O/L first?

1 Answer

Kat, This issue would not be caused by the overload relay because it has a inverter board which controls the compressor. TEST BEFORE INTERPRETING LED BLINKING FREQUENCY Compressor not running 1. Activate Forced Compressor Operation, wait 2 minutes (in case of high head pressure) 2. If compressor doesn’t start, check CN75 for 2.5vdc (if not there replace Main PCB) 3. If voltage is OK, remove power, disconnect CN03 (Inverter PCB) and check resistance to the windings. Aproxametly10 ohms. If not correct , inspect wire harness, if OK replace compressor.
