My Samsung refrigerator unit stop cooling several months ago on the refrigerator side. There is ice build up on the Evaporator coil, just the upper part of it. There is no continuity on the defrost heater and it has been replaced. The refrigerator works for several weeks but there is ice build up on the Evaporator coil. This time the defrost heater's sensor is being tested for continuity. Its resistant increased as temperature drop, working like it is supposed to be. On the back of the refrigerator unit has two PCBA boards and I don't know which one control the defrost cycle. Does it sounds like the defrost problem? If so which PCBA board control the defrost cycle? Defrost heater replaced and sensor is working so it must be the controller. Please advise.

AnVu, The main control board is what controls the defrost in conjunction with the reading it gets from the defrost sensor. If the sensor is ok then the main control board would be the issue. The main control board is part number DA41-00670C.

Richard for Model Number RFG298AARS Samsung

My son has a Samsung RFG298AARS refrigerator that stopped cooling. Had a service firm look at it and after $463 in repairs, it is still not cooling. The repairman changed the main board and when it didn’t start he said it was the compressor overload, but he didn’t have that part. My son’s faith in this firm by now was fading and consequently put the repair project on hold. I checked the overload and it was good, but ordered a new one anyway and installed to no avail. Since I have a single blinking light on the inverter, I decided to take a closer look at the unit. In tracing the voltage requirements, I found a bad 10ohm 3watt resister which I replaced. Now the voltages across the panel match what is shown in the service manual, but still no compressor start. Everything seems to point to it being a bad inverter board #Da41-00404D, do you agree? Does anyone know what the voltage coming from this panel to the compressor should be?

Hello Richard. The compressor voltage should be 120 vac. If not, you will need to replace the inverter board on the unit.

Our Samsung has quit cooling. It started with the freezer (although the refrigerator appeared to hold a little high on temp.)I do not know if both were out and the circulation just took a while to warm or if they both were out..It would blink 4 times when plugged in. Then after checking this a few times it started blinking twice. Now it does not blink just comes on and off.Took off the service panel and noticed a rectangular capacitor smelled like burnt wires. I saw MF on it for Microfahrons. What are your thoughts?

Tom, With the unit slowly going out, It would be recommended to check the compressor to see if it is running. If the compressor is running then you will want to check the evaporator coils and see if there is a frost pattern. If there is no frost pattern then you will have a sealed system issue in which you will want to have a technician to check the unit out.

Our electricity went off and on 7-8 times in about a minute. Everything seems to work except the compressor. Lights, fan, temp controls all work. When you plug it in you can hear a few things trying to start but the compressor does nothing. Fuse on either panel are not blown. What panel controls the comp. start up? Your website shows #DA41-0041 1B but it does not show the big board. #AW2-SMPS I think that is the #, is it available? Thanks Kevin

John, The inverter board would not cause the freezer to not work but the refrigerator to still work. The most likely cause for this issue would be a bad stepping motor part number DA97-07070A. This stepping motor will direct the refrigerant between the 2 sides of the unit.

Hello John, You should first check the connections at the door hinge. If no problems are located, the dispenser cover assembly DA97-05401R, (which contains the control), will be the suspect.

David, The inverter board would have no bearing on the unit going into the defrost. You will want to test the defrost sensor on the evaporator coil and if it checks ok then the issue will be the main control board of the unit.
