Jennifer W. for Model Number RB215BP

Freezer door was left slightly ajar, not even enough to signal alarm. Used super cool function, caused ice blockage and fan noise. Ran this way for about 20 minutes. After researching, decided to unplugged and thaw. Unloaded frig and freezer, unplugged for two hours, restarted, frig running perfectly accurate, and freezer set at 0 but temp fluctuates between -14 and 4. Quiet operation upon restart. Nothing is in the freezer. Making ice slowly. Need to get freezer regulated. Always set at 2 above and never had fluctuations in temperature before this episode. What could be the problems?

1 Answer

Jennifer, The most likely cause for the unit to have fluctuation of 18 degrees would be a sensor that is not reading properly. You will want to test the sensors at the main board to make sure that they are ok and if they check ok then replace the main board.

Hello Khaled, This is most likely a bad switching valve solenoid or the switching valve itself has failed.

Hello Bob, The best way to test this configuration unit is with the self diagnostic mode of the control. This will allow the unit to display the fault codes. 1) Self-diagnostic function in the initial power ON. 1-1) Micom operates self-diagnostic function to check the temperature sensor condition within 1 second when the refrigerator turned On initially. 1-2) If bad sensor is detected by the self-diagnostic function, the all applicable display LED will blink for 0.5-second interval. At this moment, there is no beep sound. (Refer to self-diagnostic CHECK LIST) 1-3) Self-diagnostic button is recognized only when the error is displayed by the bad sensor. Display does not operate normally but temperature control will be controlled by the emergency operation. 1-4) When the error is detected by self-diagnosis, the error can be canceled automatically if all troubled sensors are corrected or Self-diagnostic function key (Power Freeze + Power Cool) are pressed simultaneously for 8 seconds. (Return to normal display mode). 2) Self-diagnostic function during normal operation 2-1) If Power Freeze Key + Power Cool Key are pressed simultaneously for 6 seconds during normal operation, the temperature setting display will operate for 2 seconds (ALL ON/OFF 0.5 sec each). If Power Freeze Key + Power Cool Key are pressed simultaneously for 8 seconds (including above 2 seconds), self-diagnostic function will be selected. 2-2) At this moment, self-diagnostic function will be returned with buzzer sound 'ding-dong'. If there is an error, display of error will be operated for 30 seconds and then return to normal condition whether problem is corrected or not. (Buzzer sounds 'ding-dong'). 2-3) Input by button is not acceptable during self-diagnostic function.

Hello Nick. If there is power coming to the front display board, then it is not the main board. It sounds like either that board or the touch pad is bad and will need to be replaced. Try unplugging the unit for about 20 minutes and resetting the board on the unit.

Kevin for Model Number Samsung RB215LABP fridge

Today suddenly both the freezer and the fridge quit cooling. No signs of anything iced up anywhere in the main compartment (unless it melted but no puddle) I was under the impression this unit had 2 compressors becuase it advertized "Twin cooling system" but i only see one compressor. I originally suspected the main board because i didn't think 2 compressors would fail at the same time but now I am second guessing myself as I only see the one compressor. Any guidance would be appreciated.

1 Answer

Kevin, The twin cooling system does not mean 2 compressors but the unit has 2 evaporator coils. Once in each section. The fact that both sides quit at the same time would be an indication that the start relay on the compressor may have failed, the control board is not sending power to the compressor or that the unit has some type of system leak. The most likely cause would be a faulty start relay which is more common with refrigerators. Part number for the relay DA35-00099J.

Karen, You will want to test the main control board to make sure that the power is getting to the board. If there is 120 vac to the control board then the board would need to be replaced.
