Craig, It would be recommended to test the sensors in the unit to make sure that they are good. The sensors should have a resistance of 5k ohms at 77 degrees. If it is off then the sensor is faulty.

Hello Nick. press the test button on the icemaker and see if it cycles. If so, the board is good. In this case, check for a frozen fill tube or temp issue in the unit.

Hello Dennis. If the unit is cooling some, but not properly, it would be a sign of a bad sealed system on the unit. In this case you would need an HVAC tech to come out and repair the unit.

Kai, The only way to test the control board would be to test power into the board and out of the board. With there being a lightening strike and nothing other than lights working on the unit then it will most likely be the control board that is faulty.

Paul, With some of the LED lights not working then it would be more likely the issue will be a faulty dispenser control board for your unit.

Randall S for Model Number RSG257AAWP/XAA

A week ago I noticed the fridge sounding louder than normal, as the compressor ran in its higher mode. Then a few days ago the freezer was just not cold enough (boxed items were soft). Thats when I put my own two temp gauges in, because the door would say its 0,38 (freezer, fridge). The gauges told a different story... 35,41. Turning off the fridge for a few minutes and back, would cause the door to display near the same of what my gauges said. However over just 20 minutes, the door would be reading way off again, and the freezer side would stop getting any colder. No matter what I tried over the last few days, would make it behave. There is no ice buildup on either side. The compressor is running as the fridge side is cold, but the freezer side is just not there. I bought new sensors, and got those in, and started over. The problem has not gone away. Is my next step to get a new PBA? Could this be a total motherboard malfunction, or would it be something else entirely?

1 Answer

Randall, You will want to check the frost pattern on the evaporator in the freezer and see if there is one. This could be a sealed system leak in which you would need a service technician for.

Hello Nick. That is a communication error. You will need to check and see which board is bad in the unit. Usually it is the main board.

Frank for Model Number RSG257AAPN/XAA

The display started flickering and making a strange sound. I unplugged the refrigerator, waited then plugged it back in. No luck. Pushed the power freeze and lighting button at the same time to do a reset, no luck. I unplugged all connections under the top hinge cover of the freezer door, waited one minute then connected the wires again. Display reads PC ER. What part needs to be replaced and how do I do it. I have basic knowledge of doing minor repairs. Would be helpful if I knew the sequence of removal to get to the part that needs replacing.

1 Answer

Frank, The PC ER is not showing as a valid error and would most likely be caused by a main control board malfunction. It would be recommended to unplug the unit for 1 minute and then plug it back up to see if there error code returns or to see if another error takes place. If the error code returns then the main control board would need to be replaced.

Darren for Model Number Samsung RSG257AARS

I have a Samsung Side by Side Model RSG257AARS. The Ice maker has slowed down and will not fill up like it did before. I assumed the temp sensor on Ice maker was bad so I replaced the Ice maker. The new one is slow. I discovered the freezer is at 2 degrees using a thermometer and not the -14 the front display shows. So I replaced the freeze temp sensor. Still not as cold as the panel shows. If I unplug the unit, it will show the real temp, and then slowly drop to -14, but the freezer is not actual dropping in temp but maybe 2 degrees. Unplug and try again… and the temp display is back at 2 degrees real temp, then drops again one by one over about five minutes to a fake -14. This has me stumped? Your Thoughts would be appreciated. Ice maker is working, and Refrig side is dead on Thermometer and display sensor, both read 34. It seems confused on the actual temp of the freezer side.

1 Answer

Darren, This issue sounds like it would be caused by a main control board or wiring to the main control board from the sensor. Most likely the control board is not reading the resistance of the thermistor properly.
