Paul for Model Number RSG257AARS/KAA

I have a RSG257AARS/KAA Samsung refrigerator and have a problem with the ice maker. The flapper door at the bottom of the ice dispenser will begin opening and closing whenever the freezer door is opened. Sometimes it will stop after a minute or so and sometimes will continue to open and close for hours. The water dispenser also will not operate during this time. The ice maker itself works fine and will dispense ice when that door stops opening and closing. A technician looked at it and said the issue was with the main control board, which is unavailable. Any thoughts on other causes?

Hello Paul, likely the ice dispenser switch 3405-001117 may be failing, a way to check this is to disconnect the wires to the switch and see if the problem stops,it is located behind the dispenser pad where you press against it with a glass. Also check the wire harness from the freezer door hinge to the cabinet for any wire problems.

Chris, For the freezer to cool the compressor has to be running and all fans to operate correctly. If there is ice build-up on the coils then you have a defrost issue. Since you have replaced the main control then most likely the heater or defrost sensor has failed. If no frost pattern then probably the start device on the compressor has failed and would need replaced.

Hi! My Samsung refrigerator is working perfectly on the freezer side, but not getting cool enough on the fridge side. It will cool down if I put it on the Super Cool Setting, but otherwise stays between 40-45 degrees. I have cleaned the fan and coils in the back behind the fridge, checked for ice on the coils inside the cabinet, reset via the digital control panel, unplugged to reset, and replaced the refrigerator temperature sensor. I had a repairman come out before replacing the temp sensor, but he essentially just tightened the controls in the back of the fridge, then said if that didn’t work, henwould replace the temp sensor next, I did that myself and no luck. Any ideas as to what to try next?

1 Answer

Jennifer, Check to make sure that the evaporator fan in the refrigerator is working. If this checks ok then the most likely cause for this will be the control board not reading the thermistor properly.

My Samsung is working(Freezing and Cooling) correctly. When switching between Water and Ice, I sometimes get a PC ER code and beeping. I turn the power off and on and perform a reset. This clears the PC ER. I have re- seated the connectors on the top left door over 10 times. I have also replaced the dispenser PCA DA97-06476 and the Main Control PCA DA41-00524 with new assemblies. I still have the PC ER occasionally. HELP. The info online says that the PC ER code is a communication problem. Which connector(s) on the Main Control PCA is used for the digital communications? Maybe this is the problem area.

Wally, With the main control board and the display board having been replaced then this would most likely be a wiring issue and would need to double check the wiring connection make sure that there are no damaged or loose wire connections.

Fridge fine, freezer say -10 but 3 thermometers say 40. So could be control or thermistor. Took out thermistors and checked. SPot on in icewater bath and at room temp. SO I bought a new board and says the same. When I pulled the sensor CN from the main board to check wiring, nothing made sense, like the defrost sensor wires were open?? Ok inside freezer and was wondering if I could do a power on/off reading on the Control board to see what was what lik 3.9 to 4.0 volts to ground on some resistor? I pulled the freezer fan out and see it is on with the door closed. What should evap coil temp be when doing a fast freeze and no energy saver?

1 Answer

Charlie, On fast freeze the temp of the evaporator will be about -10 degrees which is the same as regular operation and will just keep the fan running for a longer period. You will want to check the frost pattern on the evaporator coils to see if there is a full even frost pattern and see if there is not a good frost pattern then this will be a issue with the sealed system.

Duchartre, For this issue if the sensors check ok then the main control board would be the most likely cause for this isuse.

Bryan for Model Number RSG257AARS/XAA-0000

I just bought this Samsung fridge used, got it up and running, and the temp that the lcd shows is 48f when I know it is lower, also the lights in the freezer side stop working, until I power cycle the unit, at that point the lights work again and the temp shows a correct temp, after about 10min it goes back to the way it was. was also told when I bought it that the water will not flow so the ice maker and water nozzle will not work....any ideas? Thanks

1 Answer

Bryan, Based on the description it sounds as though the issue will be with the main control board of the unit causing these issues.

Cary for Model Number Samsung RSG257AARS/XAA

Hi, About a month ago replaced the ice maker assembly (DA97-06364B)/. The new ice maker was making ice as expected no issues fro over a month. Recently we noticed ice dam forming in the ice cube bucket. Water appears to be dripping from the icemaker into icebucket creating large blocks of ice cubes frozen together. Water dripping down the inside of the door. Some of the ice cubes not always full. We use ice frequently when at home . Repairman came out to review all of this. He decided water pressure was too high and the water outlet at the wall was adjusted to restrict water flow to frig. Still having same issue. Also have temp guage in the freezer, does not appear to match front control panel set to -6.freezer. Appears freezer is warmer off 6 degrees? Noticed similar issue on message board that explained the heating element on icemaker not running properly due to circuit board. Any Ideas what to check and/or replace.? Thx.

1 Answer

Hello Cary. Make sure the freezer is at 0°. If it is to cold, the icemaker will cycle early and you will have this issue with the unit.
