The temperature display on the fridge compartment is very faint (38 degree set point). The display on the freezer is also very faint (-2 set point). Holding the top left and right buttons appears to do a 'reset' after lighting all the display segments and symbols. Many segments are faint during the reset. The symbols are fine. The buttons are fine. Do I have a likely bad display board or a likely bad control board? I suppose it depends on the location of the LED driver chip(s). Could it be a loose cable to the display board?

Jim, If you replaced the evaporator in the refrigerator compartment you will want to make sure that you put enough refrigerant charge back onto the unit. Also check the sensors to make sure that they are good. If the unit has correct charge and the sensors are ok then the issue will be a control board issue.

Kirk, The display would not have anything to do with the thermistor not reading properly. You will want to pull the rear wall in the freezer and check for whether the unit is defrosting. If the coils are impacted with ice then the issue would be a defrost issue in which the defrost sensor would be the most likely cause. It could also be the stepping valve which is located in the back of the unit and is near the compressor.

Angela for Model Number Samsung RP215LABP

A repair man said that either our main board (which we have replaced twice through your site) or the front control panel is not working. The fridge/freezer both operate and keep food cold, make ice for about 3 weeks then the bottom freezer coils freeze up and need to be manually defrosted before it will make ice again. This has been an on going problem and NO repair man in our area will even touch this brand. Ok now for my question... if its the front control panel wouldn't the displays also be reading wrong or not operating correctly? We have also replaced the sensors. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Angela, For the type of issue that you are having with the coils freezing up would not have anything to do with the front control panel of the unit. The most likely causes for the issue would be a bad heater, bad defrost sensor or a faulty control board. With the control board and sensor already being replaced that would leave the heater as the most likely cause for failure. The heater of the evaporator is part of the evaporator and would have to get this to replace it. The part number is DA97-00192F. The heater is on the outer loop and can be removed from the evaporator and moved to the old evaporator without having to do a sealed system repair. Keep in mind you have to be extremely careful to not bend the refrigerant lines that come into the freezer.

Charlie, In a lot of cases when the display only has lines on it the issue is most likely caused by either an error code or a faulty display board. You will want to look a the back of the unit as there will be a tech sheet glued to the back that will give information on error codes. If these lines do not correspond to a error code then the display board would most likely be the issue.

Hello Gary. Based on the information you provided, it sounds like the main board is bad and will need to be replaced on the unit.
