Questions & Answers

For Whirlpool Air Vent (Part Number: OEM18040302)

Merle, Basically, you'll need to remove the lower kick plate and panel, remove the junction box cover and check the electrical wire connections. Make sure they are tight, not damaged or melted, and sealed or facing a direction where water can't enter the connections. Then check the hi limit thermostat and heater element and wires. The thermostat should have a "closed" circuit, and the heater resistance should be 10 to 30 ohms resistance if it is in tact. Those are the more common issues for the thermal fuse to "blow". If you need more assistance, please include the model number of your dishwasher.

Hi Tom. Check in behind the lower kick plate or inside the inner door panel to find the tech. diagnostic sheet. It allows you to put the unit in a diagnostic mode which brings up fault codes and tells you which circuit needs assistance. Use a volt/ohm meter part # MA-DM1 to assist you in your diagnostics. On P10-1 connector pin 5 brown wire is the 120 vac from the K2 relay on the control board paart # WPW10084141. On the p10-3 pin 1 brown is the neutral for that circuit. If between these points you do not get the 120 vac then possibly the board is bad. There is a noin replaceable fuse (f-9) on the board which may be open. First make sure the control board has the voltager input at P4-2 black wire on the board. It gets its power through a closed non resettable thermal fuse part # W10258275. These live checks are done with the door latch switches tripped closed. All this is on the wiring diagram/tech sheet. The wax motor is ohmed out to 600-1800 ohms cold. The piuns will be different when your model has turbozone cycle selected. Thank You.

David, Are you sure the two purple wires came off at the control board Not the wax motor on the vent system ? Based on the wiring diagram, the P10 connector on the board is a 3 pin/2 wire connector, and the two purple wires will connect to pin 1 and pin 3 ( the two outside terminals) This is not a polarity specific connection, so it doesn't matter which wire goes on which pin. Good Luck and Thanks
