The Door Latch Actuator is an OEM part for Whirlpool dishwashers. This part securely latches the dishwasher door, ensuring that it stays closed during operation and that the wash cycles run smoothly. The actuator interacts with the door latch to activate the locking mechanism, providing a secure seal to prevent leaks.

Causes of a bad door latch actuator can include regular wear and tear, mechanical failure, or damage from accidental impacts.

Symptoms of a bad door latch actuator include:

  • Dishwasher door not staying closed
  • Dishwasher not starting because the door isn’t securely latched
  • Difficulty latching or unlatching the door
  • Leaks around the door during operation

This OEM Whirlpool part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper and some Kenmore models.

Questions & Answers

For Whirlpool Door Latch Actuator (Part Number: OEM18038607)

Gregery, Usually the lights all flashing is because the unit thinks the door is opened on most units. You might also have a shorted keypad. Remove the console and take off the control that the membrane switch is attached to. If you find the green clear membrane to have any dark spots then it would need to be replaced.

Gary, You will want to test the door switch for continuity when the red tab is depressed and the actuator should actuate the switch. If you remove the outer panel you can see how the latch operates.

Juergen for Model Number GU1200XTLT2

Dishwasher just started by itself the other day. I pressed "cancel" and nothing happened, so I opened the door. NOW, the "pots/pans" cycle light, along with the "cancel" light are just flashing. NOTHING happens when I push any buttons. I turned the power off, and then back on about 1 minute later. Still flashing. About 4 hours later, it turned on by itself again! I opened the door once more and it stopped. BUT, the lights are flashing again and NO button will make it run again. What could that be?

1 Answer

Denise, You will want to check the latch actuator and check to make sure that the spring is attached and that there is no damage to the latch bolt. This would be the most likely cause for the unit stopping mid cycle with the handle recently being replaced.
