The Door Latch Actuator is an OEM part for Whirlpool dishwashers. This part securely latches the dishwasher door, ensuring that it stays closed during operation and that the wash cycles run smoothly. The actuator interacts with the door latch to activate the locking mechanism, providing a secure seal to prevent leaks.

Causes of a bad door latch actuator can include regular wear and tear, mechanical failure, or damage from accidental impacts.

Symptoms of a bad door latch actuator include:

  • Dishwasher door not staying closed
  • Dishwasher not starting because the door isn’t securely latched
  • Difficulty latching or unlatching the door
  • Leaks around the door during operation

This OEM Whirlpool part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper and some Kenmore models.

For Whirlpool Door Latch Actuator (Part Number: OEM18038607)

Hello Bill. You need to make sure the unit is level. Also, check the strike WP8580309 and see if it is bad and will need to be replaced on the unit.

Hello Ken, The unit should have a door gasket W10542314. The door gasket is only available as a kit with the door strike. If the door gasket is missing, this is probably the whole issue since most dishwasher door latches feel "too loose" when the door is opened. Since the kit comes with the door strike, I would examine the strike on your unit closely and if it appears to be bent or rusting, replace it with the one in the kit.

John, With no lights coming on the display panel you will first want to check to make sure that there is 120 vac to the control board. If there is not 120 vac at the control board then you will want to check the thermal fuse for continuity. If there is no continuity then replace the fuse. If there is 120 vac then you will want to check to make sure that there is a good firm connection of the ribbon harness to the control board. If there is then the control panel would most likely be the cause of failure.

Jen for Model Number KUDS01IJBS0

I replaced the door latch on our dishwasher (it was broken and one spring was missing) and now when I restore power and try to turn it on, the lights all come on, but the little dash that usually starts turning indicating that it's starting, is just staying lit and dishwasher won't start. When I replaced the latch, it was missing a spring...I am waiting for that part to come in but I wouldn't have thought that spring would be necessary for it to work. I do have one spring...but could that be the problem...the missing spring? Or could I have messed with the electronics? Thanks.

Jen, We would not expect a missing spring to be the issue. The display is working, so the door switches are "closed" and you have power to the control board. Your next check should be the touchpad ribbon between the control panel and the control board. Remove the connector, and clean the insertion end of the ribbon thoroughly with rubbing or denatured alcohol. Reinsert the ribbon into the connector properly and tightly. If the problem persists replace the control panel WP8270232.

Hello Kathy, The door springs are adjustable. Remove the kick panel and look to each side. The springs are readily visible, although you may not be able to see the slots that the springs fit into. There are normally 7 to 9 slots for the door spring adjustments. These are actually put on the units so if a decorative panel to match the cabinets is installed and the door is a lot heavier, the springs can be adjusted and keep the door from dropping like a rock. If there are slots toward the front of the unit in front of the slot the springs are now installed in, the springs can be moved to the slots closer to the front to make the door pull shut less aggressively.

Hello Pete. You will need to check and see if the actuator WP8524471 is not broken on the unit. The lock light does not come on on the units when the door is closed. It only comes on when the control panel is locked out on the unit. Also, check and make sure the strike WP8580309 is not bent on the unit and causing the unit not to close properly.
