Larry H. August 18, 2012 for Model Number RBS245PRB00 My Whirlpool oven has a broken hinge latch and I cannot remove the door. The hinge is OK. Only the latch is broken. I need to remove the door to replace a broken inner glass. How can the door be removed with a broken hinge latch? Thanks
1 Answer Hello Larry, When this occurs, I clamp my small vice grips on the hinge so it cannot pivot back into the assembly. Be aware that you definitely shouldn't clamp onto the double part of the hinge, but on the single part only. This will avoid bending the hinge is such a way that the door hinge would have to be replaced for the door to ever close properly. Read More...
Harry January 20, 2012 for Model Number kebc206kbl0 The original question was how to replace bottom oven latch and light switch assy. Received an answer but it sounds like the reply was to replace the top latch in a double oven or the latch in a single oven. Keep in mind that this is a double oven I am dealing with. As soon as I know how to take the oven apart I will order the part. Any help will be greatly appreciated. This is in reference to the last posting by Harry.

I want to take the latch off and either try to fix it, get a new one or can I leave it off and use oven cleaner from now on. The oven has a glass top which I am thinking has to come off. Can you tell me how to do this? Thanks!

Ct September 18, 2011 for Model Number Whirlpool Accubake I turned on self-clean cycle and the control lock (green checkmark) came on, but the door lock (green checkmark) did not, and it didn't clean. It started beeping and an error code came on, F5E1. I think I caused it because I turned on the microwave while this process was starting. I rebooted the fuse box but nothing improved. Someone said it was the door latch sensor and another said it was the door latch assembly. The first answer sounds like software, but the second answer sounds like hardware. Are they talking about two different parts?
1 Answer CT, You're on the right track, The F5 E1 code indicates the oven ERC/Clock, is not seeing the oven door lock switch is closed and the oven is ready to self clean. Check the wires to the latch assembly switches and replace the latch if alls OK. Good Luck and Thanks Read More...

Bob B. July 10, 2011 for Model Number AP3135403 Is the latch assembly intended to hold the oven door closed during normal cooking operations?
1 Answer Hello Bob. No, the oven door latch is designed to lock the door only when you select a clean cycle. It should not lock when you are using the oven normally, unless it's defective. Thanks! Read More...
