The Temperature Switch is an OEM replacement part for Whirlpool front-load washing machines. Located inside the unit, it monitors water temperatures during heating cycles.

Causes of a bad temperature switch can include failure or drift of internal components that monitor heat over extended use. Exposure to fluctuations in water temperatures during wash cycles may also impact switch performance.

Symptoms of a bad temperature switch can be:

  • Inability to heat water to set temperatures
  • Unexpected fluctuations in water temperature during cycles

This OEM Whirlpool part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore front-load washing machines.

Phil G for Model Number 110.29822801

This is a Kenmore washing machine with auto water level sensing. It fills all the way to the top, no matter how large the load. It isn't spilling over, just filling to the maximum amount of water. I removed the water level and temperature controller air hose, and blew into it while the machine was filling, and it stops filling. This lead me to believe that it was the water inlet valve instead. I purchased a water inlet valve but that did not fix the problem. So now I guess I will buy a water level and temperature controller and try that. Any other ideas? Thanks.

Phil, The auto sense switch WPW10248240 will be the most likely cause for the unit to fill all the way to the top of the unit before stopping.

Monica for Model Number Maytag ?MVWC6ESWW1

Our washer won't start and fill with water at all. At the beginning when we pulled the timer knob it was only making humming noise, but nothing happened. And then we found a video on youtube which shows that is a wire problem at the bottom of washer. https://youtu.be/Sga33AjuXTM Which was true, we found the little red wire what is connected to motor capacitor and was broken off at the end of terminal, so we replaced the wire. We've tried to use it without clothes first, it seemed working fine, and then put some clothes in there and won't start again. I've kept looking for answers for our problem and then I found an other website what says it could be the motor capacitor. So we ordered that part and replaced it, still won't work. It spins, rinses, but only when I turn the timer manually. After that we called a repairman who gave us some advice to replace the timer, because that is the one what causes the problem. We replaced that too, still nothing happened, same problem. I was so upset, so I've kept looking and I found an other answer what says it could be the circuit board/agitation delay. We ordered that too, but still nothing. Now I'm so disappointed and exhausted, because we spent a lot of time and money to fix it and still have the problem. Our last option must be the temperature switch. Do you think that parts is the one what we should replace to make it work again? I don't want to order that part until I get a acceptable reason.Thank you

Hello Monica, The problem you are experiencing is in the start circuit. This circuit includes the harness, the timer, the lid switch and the motor assembly. The motor WP661600 is the most likely suspect.

Hello Danimal, If hose to the switch gets clogged with lint from the wash, the indication would be an overfill situation. The switch WPW10248240 is a common failure on this design.

Tommy, The water pressure should not cause the water temperature switch to fail. You will want to check the wiring of the unit to make sure that there is no pinched or damaged wires. Also check the voltage getting to the unit to ensure that there is not an overvoltage getting to it.

Hello Brett. It is not suppose to fill all the way. This is an automatic level unit. It uses the temp switch WPW10248240 for adjust the level. It is suppose to stall also so the neutral drain transmission can work properly.
