This balance ring mounts on the top of the washer's spin basket. Its sealed, liquid-filled chamber shifts weight to counterbalance uneven loads so the tub spins smoothly, reducing vibration, noise, and stress on other components. What it does:

  • Uses internal fluid to counterbalance heavy or uneven loads during spin
  • Helps minimize vibration, shaking, and thumping noises
  • Reduces washer movement or "walking" during spin
  • Common failure symptoms: excessive vibration/noise, frequent out-of-balance loads, or visible cracks/leaks at the ring
What's included:
  • 1 balance ring assembly
Install notes:
  • Disconnect power and water; wear gloves and use proper safety precautions
  • Access the ring by removing the cabinet/top and inner basket (procedure varies by model)
  • Remove the old ring; seat the new ring evenly on the basket rim—do not puncture the sealed chamber
  • Reassemble, level the washer, and run a test spin to ensure smooth operation

Hello Agnes, if you are referring to the inner tub, and have removed the agitator and the spanner nut then the inner tub at that point has nothing mechanically holding the inner tub in place , the inner tub rests on the drive block and may have hard water/ detergent residue holding it in place. Usually rocking the inner tub left/right then front /back breaks it free.

Chas, Yes using a rubber mallet would work but may have to pry a little to get the ring out.

My washer moves a lot, I have replaced several parts trying to fix it however the issue is still there; I am looking to replace the balance ring, however I removed mine to see if there is any leak on it and I dont think there is any since the ring still has the liquid inside, however the washer is around 10 years old, so my question is: could the ring be just bad after all this time even when it does not have a leak? will replacing the ring fix the moves and vibration? Thank you.

1 Answer

Luis, The balance ring will not cause this issue if there is liquid in it but this would most likely be caused by faulty pads on the skate plate. It would be recommended to replace the pads part number 285219 and 285744.

Hello Bert, I'm sorry but the solution in the balance ring is a saline solution and will freeze if not inside a controlled climate. It contains no antifreeze.

Jean, You will have to get between the inner tub and the ring and release the tabs. This may require the inner drum to be removed to get it.

Tot, When leveling the unit it is best to put the level on a flat spot in the front, rear and sides on the top of the unit.

I replaced the lid switch (which fixed problem with cycles). Then, replaced the fluid filled balance ring, however, after replacing that, my clothes are now soaking wet (can wring them out) at the end of all cycles. It seems to spin okay though when empty but seems a little loose. Could the balance ring not being on all the way be the cause of the clothes not spinning out correctly or is it something else? I would prefer not to have to replace more parts if it is something simple like that.

1 Answer

Christi, While the balance ring could cause the unit to get off balance and cause this issue, you will also want to check the clutch to make sure that there is no wear on it. Also you do want to make sure that the tub ring is not loose.
