This burner assembly is the gas/air mixing and flame head for gas dryers. Replacing a warped or corroded burner restores reliable ignition and steady heat so loads dry evenly and cycle times return to normal.

  • Mixes incoming gas with air and directs it to the igniter for proper light-off
  • Produces a stable flame to heat the dryer's airflow
  • Replaces burners that are bent, rusted, or clogged and affecting ignition
  • Typical symptoms: no heat, burner won't light, intermittent heat, or long dry times
What's included: One burner assembly. Install notes:
  • Disconnect power, shut off gas, and allow the dryer to cool before servicing.
  • Access the burner compartment; note component positions and wiring for reassembly.
  • Protect the igniter and sensor mounted near the burner from impact.
  • After reassembly, restore gas and check all connections with a leak-detection solution; verify proper ignition and flame.

Questions & Answers

For Whirlpool Burner Assembly (Gas Dryer) (Part Number: OEM18023997)

Brian for Model Number mdg5500aww

I have a Maytag Neptune Dryer. The flame goes on and turns off after 18 seconds. It will then cycle on and off throughout the cycle but won't dry the clothes well. I have already replaced the coils, igniter and flame sensor. Same problem. I have tested the high-limit sensor and it has continuity at room temperature and shuts off when heated in a skillet. It appears that the flame isn't being pushed far enough through the duct and is hitting the hight limit sensor directly. When I take the high-limit sensor out, it runs without being shut off. Any suggestions?

Brian, Check and clean the exhaust vent system and vent hood, first. Then check the drum outlet vent WP33001799 and blower wheel and housing WP33001789 for clogs and debris. Your post indicates an air flow issue, you may also have a weak hi limit switch WP303395 , if the dryer has been operating in this fashion for a while.

Hello John. Usually these break down from the heat. You will need to replace the part. Hope this helps.
