For Whirlpool Button, Push-To-Star (Part Number: OEM12139659)

William for Model Number LDG8404AAM

For a couple of weeks, as the start button was pushed, the dryer made a new noise as the tumbler began turning. Today on initial startup, the noise was longer than usual. The cycle was completed normally, and I unloaded the clothes. I wanted to check out the function of the dryer, so I attempted to restart the empty dryer. The start button caused a loud noise but the tumbler did not turn. With my wife's help, I attempted to manually turn the tumbler while the door switch and start button were closed. More noise; I could turn the tumbler about 1/2 turn, but could not cause manual start. Has the motor worn out? It's only twenty or so years old.

William, if the timer is sending 120VAC through the grey wire, the drum turns freely by hand, and the start button has continuity when the power cord is unplugged and the button is pressed in then the failure would be in the motor W10410999.

When my dryer's cycle ends the buzzer will not stop until I open the door, When I have my dryer set to a time as soon as I close the door it turns on. I no longer have to push the button to start the dryer. From searching the internet It seems it is the Push to start switch has gone bad, I however, wanted more of a professional opinion before I went to buy one and end up finding out that wasn't the issue. Does my problem seem like it is the Push to start Switch and if so do you have them for my model? what I have pulled up here right now just looks like a button and not the switch that I'm assuming goes "behind the scenes" that the button attaches to?

Hello Kelli, the switch can be checked using a multimeter and should show continuity only when pushed in, however, the part (33001618) is no longer available from the manufacturer.

Valerie, This issue sounds like it would be caused by a faulty timer knob on the unit.

You will need to check the thermal fuse to see if it is open, this would keep the dryer for starting, Also, check your voltage to make sure you are getting 240 volts between the black and red wires at the terminal block.
