Barbara, You will want to make sure that the condenser coils on the unit are clean and check to make sure that the condenser fan motor is running. If the compressor is not running then pull the relay off and shake it on your hand. If little particles come out then replace the relay.

Hello Rick, This sounds like a sealed system restriction causing the issue. The sealed system will need to be troubleshot by a Freon authorized technician. The restrictions in these units are normally in the evaporator coil, the heat exchange assembly, or the filter drier. There is the possibility of an inefficient compressor but usually this is not the case if the unit operated normally for a short time after the start relay is replaced.

Matt for Model Number Magic Chef DF-15HG

We have a large freezer in the garage that has stopped working. We came home today to have everything thawed out and the freezer no longer running. The sides were burning hot also. We took everything out and cleaned the coils then restarted it after about 1hr. It started to get slightly cool again but the sides were burning hot again. What could be the problem? I don't want to have it running with it getting so hot so we unplugged it again. Please help with any kind of possible solution. Thanks.

Matt, This issue sounds like there could be a restriction in the high side of the sealed system which would cause the sides to get extremely hot and the unit to not cool properly. This will also cause the compressor to shut down. The issue may be a clogged filter dryer in the sealed system or an internal restriction.

Bob, You will want to pull the rear cover of the freezer compartment. Check to see if there is a frost pattern on the evaporator coils. If there is no frost pattern or very little frost just at the top then there is a sealed system issue. If the evaporator coils are completely impacted with ice then there is a defrost issue. Also check to see if the fan in the freezer is operating and check to make sure that the compressor is running and that the condenser fan motor is running. If evaporator is impacted with ice then you will need to check the heater and defrost thermostat for continuity. If either do not have continuity then replace the part that does not have continuity. If they both check ok then replace the defrost control.

Lisa, You will want to check to make sure that the unit is not in a defrost cycle. When you look at the control panel in the refrigerator, if you look at the bottom there will be a hole. If you take a flat blade screw driver and stick it in the hole and turn the defrost timer til it clicks, see if the unit cycles on. If not continue to turn til there is another click and you would want to check to make sure that the fans are running and if they are then check to see if the compressor is running. It may be a bad thermostat or a sealed system issue.

Hello Ethan, If the relay has failed then the compressor would not run. You will want to double check to make sure that the compressor is running. If not then pull relay off and shake. If the relay rattles then the relay is faulty and you would need to replace.
