Symptoms of a bad icemaker include:

  • Insufficient ice production or no ice at all.
  • Leaking water from the icemaker.
  • Misshapen or smaller ice cubes.
  • Unusual noises during ice production.

This OEM Whirlpool part can also be used on Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore/Sears brand appliances.

For Whirlpool Icemaker Assembly (Part Number: OEM9548208)

Judy for Model Number 2198597

kenmore ice maker quit filling. I have taken it out tested lights flashing all work the way its suppose to but when taking the cover off I noticed one of the two plastic clips in the middle of the dial that turns is broke off ,is this whats keeping it from filling up with water and making ice? I noticed that yesterday and still snapped it back together and heated up the black water tube to make sure it wasn't frozen up and the tray filled and dumped 3 times and quit again.? is it just that small plastic dial clip or whole ice maker? Can I buy just that small plastic clip if that's what it is?

1 Answer

Judy, We wouldn't expect the broken clip to present a major problem, as far as the fill cycle is concerned, but it probably will create issues ejecting the ice cubes. You would need to dismantle the ice maker, replace the extractor and reassemble the ice maker, It most likely would be better to replace the assembly, if or when the problem persists. Since the ice maker worked for three cycles, you most likely have a "glitch" in the emitter and receiver circuits in the sensor circuit.

Hello Belva. No, it sounds like the icemaker is bad and will need to be replaced on the unit if the cubes are normal size.

Ian for Model Number Kenmore 106.56662500

Kenmore 106.56662500 side-by-side with in-door ice storage and dispense. Water dispenses from door, I recently (within the last six months) replaced the control valve at the left rear of the unit, and more recently replaced the main waiter supply line due to a pin-hole in it. Ice maker is not putting ice into the bin. Ice-maker has ice in it, harvester arms are pointed down into the ice tray. Immediately after opening freezer door, red LED on receiver unit blinks twice, blinks twice, blinks twice, then a long single blink, then repeats. With the door open but the flap on the IR transmitter held, the red LED remains on, sometimes. Other times, with the door open but the flap help, the red LED short-short-long. With the door sensor held and the transmitter flap held, the red LED does not come on at all. All tests above performed with the ice maker switch in the on position. Does the above description suggest the ice maker, the IR transmit and receiver boards, or both? Thanks for your help! i

Hello Ian. Since the boards pass and then fail, I would start with them because they need to be replaced for sure. If the icemaker still does not work after replacement, you will need to replace the icemaker on the unit.

Vic, The water valve would be the most likely cause for the unit to not put water into the icemaker.
