This refrigerator air damper control is the motorized assembly that regulates how much cold freezer air enters the fresh food section, helping maintain even, accurate temperatures and consistent airflow across shelves.

  • Meters airflow from the freezer to the refrigerator via a motor-driven damper door
  • Helps the control system reach and maintain target temperatures
  • Failure symptoms include: refrigerator too warm, items freezing near the vent, weak or no airflow from the diffuser, or repetitive clicking/ratcheting noises from the damper area
  • A stuck-open or stuck-closed damper can cause temperature swings or ice buildup around the vent
What's included: One air damper control assembly Installation notes:
  • Disconnect power to the refrigerator before servicing
  • Access the damper from inside the fresh food compartment; remove shelves and the cover/console as needed
  • Unplug the wire harness and remove mounting screws; transfer any foam seals or ducts from the original to the new assembly if required
  • Reassemble, restore power, and allow up to 24 hours for temperatures to stabilize

Joe, We seriously doubt the four additional wires are available, they're probably "foamed in" inside the cabinet walls. Try and get us the model and serial number off the production tag inside the refrigerator compartment, near the top of the ceiling on the left side wall(usually). We can check and verify and advise you of the proper part needed for your refrigerator. Thanks,

Lex, You will want to pull the cover of the damper assembly in the refrigerator compartment and make sure that the damper door is open. If the damper door is not opening then the damper is most likely faulty and would need to be replaced. Also check to make sure that the evaporator fan motor is running and that there is no frost building on the rear wall of the freezer compartment. If there is frost building then the issue would be a defrost failure in which you will want to test the defrost heater and thermostat for continuity. If either does not have continuity then that part would need to be replaced. If they both check ok then the defrost control would need to be replaced.
