I have a Maytag Quiet Series 200 Dishwasher (Model # MDBTT50AWW) that is having intermittent draining issues. Looking at the questions here and elsewhere online, I think it is the Drain Pump. When I look them up on here it gives me two different models. Part Number: AP4364233 Made by: Whirlpool Price: $54.66 Part Number: AP5272754 Made by: Whirlpool Price: $69.54 I am hoping someone can tell me what the difference is and if they are 100% interchangeable or if one is better and why? Your help is much appreciated.

Sk for Model Number MDB7600AWS

My dish washer drain pump stopped working. I replaced with part # 6-917641. Once I connect the power, the drain pump started running. Initially I thought, there might be some water inside and it's attempting to drain. The drain pump sound is there always. When I start a cycle, I hear water gushing sound and motor starting sound. At the end of the cycle, there is no water inside. That means drain pump is working. However it's not stopping at the end of the cycle. I have to leave the door open or cut the power to turn off pump. So far I ran two( 2) complete cycles. Once without any dishes and next time with dishes. The dishes are not cleaned. What could be the problem? Are there any diagnostics, I can perform? Thanks in advance.

1 Answer

SK, Yes there are diagnostic tests you can perform. You will need to remove the lower kickplate and access panel from the front of the dishwasher. you should find the tech data information sheet attached to the backside of the kickplate, in a plastic bag, if it hasn't been lost or misplaced. This dishwasher circuitry isn't too complicated, as long as there is power to the dishwasher and the door is latched, there is 120 VAC supplied to all the components in the dishwasher. The control board controls the neutral leg of the circuit in order for the motors etc. to operate. You will need to check the wiring harness, especially the gray wire from the control board to the drain pump for shorts or pinches to the frame or cabinet. Especially at the bottom of the door/ and in the door liner. If all's OK, the control board would be the next and best option.

Manoj, You do have a separate drain pump WP6-917641 located in the right rear area of the tub. you didn't mention if you could hear the motor running or not, but the test isn't that hard to perform. The test information is listed on the tech data information sheet located in a plastic bag taped to the backside of the kickplate panel. Drain Pump The Drain Pump will drain water from the Dishwasher in various cycles. If a failure is suspected, the entire Pump Assembly needs to be replaced. 1. Disconnect power to the machine. 2. Remove Support and Toe Panel. 3. Disconnect lead wire from Pump Assembly. 4. Disconnect drain hose from Pump Assembly. 5. Remove Torx™ screw through bushing in Pump Mounting Plate.6. Rotate Pump Assembly to unlock from Tub. It can be difficult, but in most cases you can access and remove the drain pump from the dishwasher without removing the dishwasher from the cabinet.

MJ, you'll need to remove the pump cover and lower spray arm and remove and check or replace the drain pump baffle WP6-919119 . If or when the "flaps" of the baffle get deformed or bent they create a vortex and the tub will not drain.
