For Whirlpool Dryer Moisture Sensor Bar (Part Number: OEM18024828)

1 Answer

Tom, You could replace the sensors but will first want to check to make sure that the wiring has not come loose and is not damaged.

Suzanne, It is possible that the 2 wires have fallen down where you cannot see them and you may need to remove the front cover of the unit to get to them.

Bill for Model Number MED8000AW0

The lint filter housing on my Maytag MED8000AW0 is not coming off as easily as shown in the video for the Duet, which is similar, but has slight differences. The inner part (inside the drum) of my Maytag lint housing has 2 screws that are removed and the outer part also has 2 screws. Removing these 4 screws loosens the lint filter housing, but does not allow me to completely remove it. Looking down into the filter slot I can see the sharp tip of another screw holding the outer housing piece in place, but the head of this screw is not accessible on the outer jamb. The inner plastic housing piece is fitted together with the outer piece so I can't remove the entire housing to clean the drying sensor slots and vacuum out that part of the exhaust system. Do I have to remove the entire door and jamb panel to remove the inner (and outer) pieces of the filter housing?

Bill, If you look at the very bottom of the grill, just to the left if you were looking from the front of unit 7 grill slots over from the sensor bars, it appears that this may be where the last screw will be located to remove. If there is no screw there then you may need to remove the front bulkhead to get the grill off.

Hello Mark. It is just a metal bar. No need to replace in pairs if both are not bad. You look for corrosion or breaks in the bars.

On the video (and on the order page) I only see 1 sensor bar ever being mentioned/worked with/in package. Do I need to order 2 of these, or do 2 come in the package? Please reply email (also). If I need to order 2, you could probably save MANY people including your company many headaches by simply improving the order page to say "ORDER 2 - YOU WILL NEED TO REPLACE BOTH" somewhere close to the top, or close to the "quantity" box. If there are 2 in the package, same thing, add (S) after SENSOR BAR and state somewhere on the page (2 in package).

Tom, It would be suggested to check the wiring between the sensor bars and the control board to ensure that there is no damage to them. If the wiring checks ok then try to clean the bars with some rubbing alcohol, especially if you use dryer sheets. If this does not correct then yes the sensor bars would be the most likely issue.

Gregg for Model Number 11092826102

OK, so my Kenmore elite HE3 gas dryer still does a terrible job of drying clothes. On the auto cycle, the indicator says dry, but clothes are damp. On timed dry with equivalent settings to the auto dry mode, it still seems to take forever. I've replaced the gas valve coils and thermistor, and I've checked the ignitor, flame sensor, and high limit thermostat. The entire vent system is clean from inside the dryer to the exhaust outside, so it's not that. At your suggestion, I also replaced the gas valve assembly. That seemed to help somewhat; the burn cycle used to only come on for about ten seconds, now it stays on for a few minutes at a time. In terms of what's left, there's the moisture sensors, moisture sensor wiring harness, and the computer control unit. The moisture sensor checks out fine for the "wet finger test" and resistance, but when I run the diagnostic on it, doesn't supply the code number it's supposed to, so maybe something in that loop?

Hello Gregg, If the unit has an issue and the self diagnostic model is not showing you the code, the issue is most likely in the control WP8546219.

Hello Peter. The only reason you would replace the bar is if the bar is broke and needs to be replaced.
