Leonard December 17, 2013 for Model Number Whirlpooll side by side I've always had great trouble installing the 4396841 water filter in my Whirlpool Side by Side refrigerator. I've had to call for service to have someone do it for me. He makes it look easy, but I can only rarely do it. The problem is that after I insert the new filter in place, no matter how hard I push, the release button doesn't pop out. This last time, I fiddled with it some, and it appears to be in place, but I am not sure. The button came out and the filter doesn't slide out when pulled gently. Can you tell me what I might be doing wrong? My refrigerator doesn't have a filter light. Is there some way to tell for sure that it is in place and working? I seem to remember the refrigerator making a hard to ignore noise when the repair man did it, but it didn't this last time when I did it. Should there be such a noise?

December 01, 2013 for Model Number GS2SHAXSS03 I've been using the same water filter for at least a year (don't know when the previous residents changed it last), and everything still seemed fine. The only thing we noticed is that the water was coming out a little slower as time went on. I just went and purchased a new filter, and now the water has a funny plastic taste to it. I have ran about 5L of water through, and I still get the taste. When I put the old filter back in, the taste goes away after running a couple litres through it. I also noticed that the water pressure was up when I put in the old filter back in again (which was not what I would have expected). Did I just get a bad filter, or could something else be wrong?
