Lori, This filter will fit into the filter housing the same way as previous and would suggest to use something and give it a good push with leverage on it.

Hello Steve, This is most likely going to be a bad filter head that the filter installs onto. I'm sorry but we will need to ask you to post a new question including the model number from your units' I.D. tag so we can recommend parts that can be guaranteed to work properly on your unit. Thank you for your patience and understanding in this matter.

Rocky, Try this Try closing and re-opening the Water Filter Compartment Door. Ensure the door is fully opened. Turn off the water to the Refrigerator and purge some of the water from the water line line, using the water dispenser. Dispense several cups of water, this will release some of the water pressure in the water line. After purging the water line, try removing the water filter. You should be able to "feel" the door engage the tabs on the filter and begin to move out of the housing. The last resort would be to remove the kick plate panel, then use tools to carefully extract the filter from the housing.

Mr.T for Model Number MSD2542VEBOO

I have model EDR3RXD1 and when I replaced the filter, it worked for a few glasses, and then it slowly went to a trickle and stopped working. I put my old filter in and it works fine so I put the new one in and tried again with another new filter same results but this time it broke the water valve so I had to replace. I put the new filter in with the new water valve and same thing slow water I put my old one in and good water pressure. I know its not any frozen line because I had it unhooked for a whole day and a half I know its not the filter housing because if it was how and why would it only work with my old filter which my old filter is the same mode EDR3RXD1. If it was the water filter housing it wouldn't work with any. So what could this possibly be but the replacement filters I bought

1 Answer

Mr. T., It is possible for the filter housing WPW10121138 to "fail". On occasion, the internal bypass mechanism lever can become distorted and wont activate properly with a new filter. You may want to measure the tubes on the end of the filter, they should be the same length and the O rings in the same position on both old and new filters. If not you may want to try a different parts source for the filter.

Shrega for Model Number EDR3RXD1

I have model EDR3RXD1 and when I replaced the filter, it worked for a few glasses, and then it slowly went to a trickle and stopped working. The water flows from the dispenser fine when the filter is removed. It's almost like the filter is pinching off the water supply, the reservoir is emptied, and then there's no more water. The old filter, same model, worked fine, and this is the second replacement filter with the same result. Does this make sense? Do you know what's wrong?

1 Answer

Shrega, You forgot to include a model number for the refrigerator, or mention a problem with the ice maker making ice. If the water tank/reservoir in the refrigerator compartment isn't frozen, then the most likely issue is the bypass system, inside the filter housing assembly WP2186443 has "stuck" and will not allow the water to flow through the assembly and out to the dispenser/ice maker. As long as you're sure you're installing and seating the water filter properly, you'll need to check, replace the filter housing. You'll need to model number of your refrigerator to order the appropriate part. Thanks,

Glenn, Try to put a small coat of vegetable oil on the seal and see if it will turn into the filter housing. If it will not then this issue will most likely be caused by a faulty filter housing which would need replaced.
