The Water Level Float is an OEM part for Whirlpool dishwashers. It helps regulate the water level within the dishwasher by rising with the water level and signaling the control board to shut off the water inlet valve when the appropriate level is reached.

Causes of a bad water level float can include wear and tear, mineral buildup or debris obstructing its movement, or damage due to mishandling. Over time, these issues can prevent the float from moving freely or accurately signaling the water level.

Symptoms of a bad water level float include:

  • Dishwasher overfilling or underfilling
  • Water leaks during the wash cycle
  • The dishwasher not completing cycles correctly
  • Error codes related to water level issues

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

Questions & Answers

For Whirlpool Water Level Float (Part Number: OEM18050214)

1 Answer

Mr Float, this would likely be caused by either there being a failure with the lower spray arm WPW10320510, or the water valve WPW10327249 overfilling the water level. The spray arm would need to be inspected for any clogged jets or cracks. The water level would also need to be inspected to identify if it rises above the minimal amount needed to lift the float off of the float switch.

Denny, the circulation pump W11032770 would be responsible for pushing water through the wash arms when it receives 120VAC from the main control W11305297. If there is voltage reaching the motor after the unit fills and it does not circulate the water, the motor would need to be replaced.

Hello Bruce, the control board cycles the diverter moto throughout the cycle, when the diverter motor is running there is no power to the wash motor, if there is a problem in the diverter motor the control board may pause the wash motor for long periods. Check under the sump for a possible water leak into the diverter motor.

Cal for Model Number Kitchaid dishwasher KUDS30IXBL1

I too have a small amount of water dripping from the bottom of the float. (and insulation under that spot is stained) I took the float out, and it looks like a piece of the float is broken off where it surrounds the vertical tube of the 'overfill standpipe housing' which the float fits into. Bought a new float -- it has the same piece missing, and water still drips. This cannot be by design, can it?? -- there is clearly residue from where water has gotten into the standpipe at the broken location. Picture available --

Cal, This is the way that the manufacturer has designed the float and this may be caused by a leak in the gasket that is around the standpipe.

Eric for Model Number KUDS30FXSS9

Recently, I noticed that the insulation part under the front right of my dishwasher was wet. After further investigation and what was a useless $70 call from a specialist, water seems to be leaking from my float, down the stem onto this insulation. This only occurs when soap is added to the machine. My dishwasher is used maybe once a week maximum. I checked the float and it seems like it is in perfect condition. The connection from the float into the control panel is perfect (when I lift the float up and down I can hear the clicking sound). The dishwasher is also level.

Hello Eric, This is most likely caused by a "wave" being generated by the water circulation. This is most often caused by one or more holes being stopped up. This basically causes more water to be expelled from the other holes and generates a pulsing effect in the water and can cause the water to splash from the air gap below the door. This can run down and look like water is leaking from another source.

Hello AJ. Open the door and locate the float in the bottom of the tub and then work it up and down and clean any build up to release the stuck float.
