The Dryer Heating Element is an OEM replacement part for Whirlpool dryers. It is responsible for generating the heat necessary for the drying process, ensuring clothes and fabrics are thoroughly dried.

Symptoms of a bad dryer heating element include:

  • Clothes coming out damp or taking excessive time to dry
  • No heat or insufficient heat produced during the drying cycle  
  • Visible signs of damage or burnout on the heating element itself
  • Unusual burning smells emanating from the dryer

Causes of a faulty heating element can include normal wear over time, electrical issues, or physical damage from impact or overloading.  

This OEM Whirlpool part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore dryer models.

Hello Dale, As per the tech sheet for the unit this will read from 7.8O–11.8O on your resistance/ohm meter.

Mike, That's a very reasonable guess, but first check and make sure there is 220-240 VAC supplied to the dryer, reset the breaker several times. when you check the heater element, also check the thermal cut off 279973 and hi limit switch WP3391914 for closed circuits.

Ronald, You will want to check the oven sensor for 1090 ohms of resistance at room temp. If the sensor checks ok then the most likely cause for this issue will be a control board that has a stuck relay.

Hello J., While we do not have a video on this design, you may still be able to locate a video on the web. This unit will be tougher to locate since it is a Kenmore and Sears does not share their information. This is a Whirlpool configuration so you may be more successful in locating a video on a comparable Whirlpool model number.

Hello BBreferee. Remove the toe panel from the dryer. Remove the screw from the heater shield and remove the shield. To remove the heater: a) Remove the two wires from the heater terminal block. b) Remove the hex-head screw from the heater housing, and slide the heater out of the duct. To remove the high-limit thermostat or the thermal cutoff: a) Disconnect the wires from the high limit thermostat or the thermal cutoff. b) Remove the two hex-head screws.
