Symptoms of a faulty icemaker include:

Larry for Model Number WRX988SIBMW00

Each time we use the water dispenser, water is dispensed fine. However, as soon as we stop, water leaks out of the ice maker for a period of time. Its not just a drop or too but quite a bit. No leaks occur other, just after dispensing water from the door. Online searches seem to point to a bad design with the ice maker and suggest ice maker replacement. The ice maker works fine but its getting old wiping up water. Do you recommend ice maker replacement or is there another fix? Thank you in advance.

1 Answer

Larry, It is likely not the icemaker that is leaking but would be a issue with the dispenser dripping and would most likely be caused by a faulty water valve causing this.

Joe S for Model Number wrf736sdam12

My ice maker stopped making ice for reasons unknown. I checked the infrared light which is still working. I can still get water from the water dispenser as normal. The fridge is about 3 years old, we purchased brand new, and have had no other issues. I took out the filter checking to see if the filter was blocking the water which it was not. I'm wondering now if I need the entire ice maker assy as shown ap6024044? any way to determine if this is the problem? should the fingers in the icemaker (assuming that is what pushes the ice out) rotate if pressed/pulled on? They are currently stuck in the horizontal position, and won't budge when pressed/pulled on.

1 Answer

Joe, The icemaker fingers do not rotate unless the motor is running. The icemaker would be the most likely cause for this issue.

Timd for Model Number Whirlpool WRF736SDAM10 serial # K31203240

I have water leaking out of the ice box fascia and ice bin into the door bin and out the front of the refrigerator door under the ice and water dispenser. I replace the User Interface board and High Voltage board, kit number W10639151. After a day the refrigerator had the same water problem. I am now receiving from ice maker service test 56, ice maker error code 02 = motor lost position. And ice maker service test 59 - "ice maker motor", in motor rotating CW until home positon, it indicates HARVESTING NOT COMPETE. In motor rotating CCW until home position, it indicates HAVESTING COMPLETE. Can you tell me what part I deed to rectify this problem?

1 Answer

TimD, With having already replaced the main board and dispenser board, this will be an issue with the icemaker itself or the water valve. You will want to access the icemaker and check to see if it has frozen over. If it has then the issue will be the water valve not shutting off properly. If it is not then the issue will be caused by a faulty icemaker.

Hello Libby. This box is not designed to be removed. However, there should be screws securing it to the head unit.

Robert for Model Number Whirlpool WRF989SDAM00

The icemaker on the Whirlpool WRF989SDAM00 is completely enclosed and covered up in the "roof" to of the Fridge. The Plastic has to be removed (somehow) to access the concealed flush ice maker assembly. I can't figure out where to "pry" to remove the plastic which conceals the entire icemaker access. I did pry off and remove the front flap which then revealed just one screw on the left side which i removed but that still does not give me any access to the icemaker and nothing is removable just based on that one screw. I have searched for any service manual that would show how to "get access" to the assembly however it does not seem to exists. Any help how to get the icemaker open, would be greatly appreciated.

1 Answer

Robert, Once you remove the screw under the plastic you would just need to pull the assembly where the icemaker is straight out. This will allow the icemaker and fan assembly in the compartment to be lowered. You will then disconnect the harness and the icemaker is accessible.
