The Lid Latch Assembly is an OEM part for Whirlpool washing machines. It ensures that the washer lid is securely locked during operation, preventing it from being opened mid-cycle, which could cause water spills and interrupt the washing process. This component plays a vital role in the safety and functionality of the washing machine by ensuring that the lid remains closed during washing and spinning cycles.

Causes of a bad lid latch assembly can include regular wear and tear, electrical failures, or physical damage from forcefully opening or closing the lid. When the lid latch assembly is faulty, it can affect the washer's ability to start or complete a cycle properly.

Symptoms of a bad Lid Latch Assembly include:

  • The washer not starting or stopping mid-cycle
  • Error codes related to lid lock issues
  • The lid not locking or unlocking properly
  • The washer pausing unexpectedly during operation

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

Karen, To test the lid lock you will need to access the wiring diagram in the console of the unit and run the Lid lock test on page 9. If the lid lock test fails then you will need to check the lid lock mechanism for obstruction or binding. Repair that as necessary. Unplug the washer remove the console to access the main control board. Visually check that the J15 connector is inserted all the way into the main control. If the visual check passes then remove the connector from J15 main control board. With an ohmmeter, verify the lid lock resistance values across the following J15 connector pins: Lock switch solenoid Resistance should be between 85-155 ohms measured between pins 1 and 3 of J15 connector Lock switch If locked should be 0 ohms resistance and if unlocked should show open circuit measured between the J15 pin 3 to 4. Lid switch Lid closed should read 0 ohms and lid open should show an open circuit from connector J15 pins 3 to 2.

John, You will want to pull the tech sheet which is located in the control panel of the washer and run a diagnostic and see if there are any stored error codes. These error codes will point you in the direction that you will need to go with the issue that you are having. Normally when there is an issue with the lid locking and then unlocking it is caused by either a faulty lid lock or the control board. If the lid lock does not fully engage it will cause the unit to unlock and usually try to lock again but will cause a flashing Lid lock light.

Xavier, Yes, the actuator WPW10006355 or a loose connection in the harness is the more likely issue. Most erratic operations, and lid lock issues are due to the actuator or harness, so far. If you raise the top, or lean the washer back against the wall, you should find the tech data and wiring sheets attached to the cabinet interior of the front panel. You can then program and recall the error codes and can conduct the component operation tests, this will help determine the issue.

Hello Greg, If you raise the main top and feel at the front of the tub, taped to the main front is the service manual in a plastic ziplock bag. On page 6-8 there are test procedures that tell you what to test and how to test it. Let us know if you have further questions.

Gordon, On this style and make of washer, it has been our experience that most issues with the door lock assembly or the washer agitation and spin operation is due to a faulty Actuator assembly WPW10006355. Check the wiring to the actuator and at the control board, first, if the issue persists replace the actuator first.
